Midland, Texas JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: CERTIFIED MEDICAL ASSISTANT DEPARTMENT: COLEMAN / WOMEN’S SERVICES / PEDIATRICS REPORTS TO: CLINIC MANAGER / CHARGE NURSE OES CODE: 31-9092 FLSA EXEMPTIONS STATUS: NON-EXEMPT JOB SUMMARY Certified Medical Assistants play an important supporting role to the staff and patients of Midland Community Healthcare Services. They are expected to provide excellent customer service while performing tasks such as taking and recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examination, drawing blood, and administering medication as directed by physicians. Certified Medical Assistants are utilized based on their scope of practice and the scope of their abilities. Certified Medical Assistants are evaluated and credentialed individually to determine their own unique scope of abilities. JOB DUTIES Interview patients in order to obtain medical histories, vital statistics, weight, height, blood pressure, temperature, and obtain any information such as test results in order to place them in the medical record. Review records for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with regulation. Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping the rooms neat and clean. Clean and sterilize instruments and dispose of contaminated supplies in accordance with OSHA and clinic policy. Participate in cross-training opportunities in order to help other departments as needed. Prepare and administer medication, immunization, shots, and vaccines as directed by a physician.** As directed by physicians educate patients with regard to treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physician’s instructions. Collect blood via finger stick, collect urine, fecal, cultures, and other laboratory specimens, log the specimens, and prepare them for laboratory testing through the proper vendor procedure.** Assist physician as needed in examining and treating patients during procedures, ensuring that proper tools and supplies are available. Maintain patient charts in the electronic medical record system, while ensuring accuracy of the patient record. Update patient records as required. Send patient correspondence as required through clinic procedure. Maintain clinical supplies through the proper procurement procedure. Assist in maintaining proper stock and inventory of medical supplies. Assist in quality improvement, auditing, safety, and compliance measures of the organization. Performs other duties as assigned by Clinic Manager and/or Charge Nurse. ** Scope of Abilities – Denotes tasks that require individual evaluation and credentialing before a Certified Medical Assistant is deemed proficient to perform the task requested. Physical Demand: Ability to interact with patients and operate office equipment for patient services. Employees will need the ability to lift a minimum of 25 lbs, or more, independently as necessary.
