What we do:

The Corporate Counsel, Employment, is an advisor to the company on a wide variety of employee relations issues. Under the direction of the Assistant General Counsel or Deputy General Counsel, this position responds to and represents the company on various types of employment claims brought by current and former employees. The Corporate Counsel, Employment, works in a highly collaborative manner to effectively advise leadership and HR business partners on complex employee relations and other employment matters, including company policies.

This position will be required to work on-site 5 days a week.

What you can do:
  • Anticipates and provides guidance to HR and leadership in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements on employee relations and related matters to minimize risk and exposure to liability for the organization
  • Anticipates and identifies complex issues presented by management and/or employees; provides guidance regarding same
  • Analyzes employment-related risks and develops recommendations for integrated human resource solutions
  • Facilitates resolution of employee/former employee concerns, including providing guidance and/or negotiation of formal separation and release agreements
  • Drafts and maintains separation and release agreements
  • Investigates and responds to federal and state government agency claims (i.e., EEOC, DOL, CA CRD, etc.)
  • Investigates and responds to demands made on behalf of employee and former employees from private attorneys
  • Assists with complex investigation and multi-forum complaints and grievance matters, including Whistleblower/Internal Audit, Equal Opportunity, and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, etc., and coordinates with internal and external resources on litigation and pre-litigation matters
  • Assists counsel with all phases of litigation coordination, including development of strategic direction of the case and settlement strategies, discovery, and collaborating closely with company witnesses, etc
  • Participates as corporate representative / witness in mediations, hearings and trials
  • Creates and delivers education regarding employment-related laws and regulations
  • Maintains currency in employment law, particularly in CA and DC, and serves as a resource to HR and company leaders
  • Occasional local and out-of-town travel to attend mediations and trials and as otherwise required
  • Assists with corporate and commercial matters, as assigned
  • May require up to 25% domestic and international travel
  • Other duties as assigned
What you can contribute:
  • Law degree (JD) from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association required
  • Member of the bar of California required; bar of District of Columbia a plus
  • A minimum of five (5) years of targeted experience and knowledge of labor/employment law, including applicable state and federal laws, required
  • In-house experience highly preferred
  • Expertise in California employment law required
  • Demonstrated experience working with legal counsel to lead employment litigation required
  • Strong knowledge of human resource practice principles preferred

Base pay offered may vary depending on skills, experience, job-related knowledge and location. This position is also eligible for a bonus as part of total compensation.
The pay range for this position is:
$147,680$227,656 USD
