Position Summary:

The purpose of the Equipment Operator Trainee position is to introduce individuals into the construction industry and to help them advance toward journey-level status in the highway construction industry, as outlined in the PennDOT OJT Program. This position provides the opportunity for on-the-job training with a well-respected heavy/highway construction company. The goal of this position is to train individuals on what is expected of them when working in the construction industry, which includes equipping individuals with the skills and knowledge necessary to operate a variety of heavy equipment used in highway construction projects. Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

Successful candidates will be able to perform the following essential functions, with or without reasonable accommodation.

• Operating and learning how to operate a variety of equipment, which includes skid steers, backhoes, loaders, and other specialized company equipment.
• Participating in manual labor tasks as needed, which includes, grading, trenching, setting up and removing traffic control, and other tasks as needed.
• Perform preventative maintenance on assigned equipment, including cleaning, lubrication, and basic troubleshooting.
• Be adaptable and willing to learn new skills and techniques.
• Demonstrate evidence of a reasonable amount of aptitude and interest in the craft.
• Caring for company machines/equipment/tools.
• Keep working sites clean of all unused/waste materials and ensure all equipment is stored in a safe and secure manner.
• Ensure the practice of safety standards in accordance with company policies and OSHA.
• Willingness to perform and learn different aspects of the Equipment Operator position.
• Following instructions from supervisors.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

Workdays & Shifts:

Education/Certification(s)/License(s):

• High school diploma or equivalent - Preferred.
• Valid driver's license - Preferred.

Knowledge & Experience:

• Prior experience operating equipment or equivalent experience - Required.
• Mechanical aptitude - Required.

Other Requirements:

• Be a minimum of 18 years of age.
• Ability to pass pre-employment drug screens & background check, including MVR.
• Must be in a union or be willing to join a union.
