Job Description

Trains and supervises materials engineers and other engineers and employees to optimize person
and machine interface to continuously improve the quality and productivity of the operating units
producing stainless steel. Oversees the evaluation of the quality and quantity of raw materials
including scrap, ores and alloys used in the production of stainless steel products to optimize
casting operations. Sets productivity goals and quality standards for production of stainless steel
products and oversees quality control for these products from a materials engineering
perspective. Oversees the development of processes to optimize downstream manufacturing
characteristics (metallurgical specifications, mechanical properties, corrosiveness, etc.) for
materials and products made from stainless steel products. Coordinates with other department
supervisors to schedule, process, and transfer in-process materials. Coordinates with
maintenance on planned outages, preventative maintenance, and special projects to improve
quality of stainless steel products. Interacts with the Technical Department to insure proper
compliance with ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) international standards
and procedures are followed on all manufacturing units to obtain the proper metallurgical
properties and quality of steel in process. Manages unit costs for operational spares to optimize
efficient production and avoid down time operationally. Maintains appropriate inventory levels
and operational spare parts to avoid or minimize lost time operationally. A bachelor's degree in
Energy and Materials, Materials Science, or Materials Engineering and one year of experience as
a Quality Control Engineer are required. Proficiency in stainless steel manufacturing quality
control as shown by one year of experience in this area is required. Job located at 6870 Highway
