The BILSTEIN COLD ROLLED STEEL facility in Bowling Green, KY is the company’s first United States manufacturing operation. It serves the automotive industry, automotive supply industry, as well as, the saw and tooling industry with tailor-made steel grades.

Position: Production Scheduler

Duties & Responsibilities

In collaboration with the Production Planning Team Leader, the Production Scheduler supports the production planning. The Production Scheduler ensures that maximum efficiency and minimal cost is acheived at each production unit. Additionally, in collaboration with the Operations, Inside Sales, Purchasing and Material Technology teams, the Production Scheduler will work with Operating Business Units and Materials to plan, organize, monitor, and control the flow of materials into, through and out of each machine center.

Specific duties include:

Main Tasks

  • Allocation of material to necessary demand
  • Tracking production orders, ensuring that required material is supplied to the production floor, as according to the production schedule
  • File, manage physical production cards
  • Ensure that customer demands are met and coordinate product scheduling in line with Inside Sales to ensure compliance with planned production requirements
  • Enter Production Orders as required.

Secondary Tasks

  • Interface with manufacturing personnel, purchasing personnel, etc. on material status and production planning issues
  • Monitor raw material call offs
  • Communicate directly with machine operators to ensure that production schedules, changes and updates are clear and understood
  • Provide timely and accurate production schedules for the equipment operators on each shift
  • Report achieved work tasks to Production Planning Team Leader
  • Optimize the schedule of each machine center to achieve the most productive sequencing while meeting downstream machine and customer requirements.
  • Responsible for understanding and working within certain defined quality parameters and material handling constraints.
  • Provide support to the Operations team to achieve the company aims and objectives for productivity and quality, providing ideas for continuous improvement.
  • Provide accurate reports on production planning issues, ensure production planning participation in meetings at the individual production areas and work with the operations team to resolve problems thus continually improving safety, quality and productivity.
  • Participate in the development and improvement of production planning IT tools e.g. SAP

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Technical discipline is preferable. Will consider AS or Technical degree with equivalent experience.
  • Experience: Production planning experience in a manufacturing environment preferably in steel/metal manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of production and processing of cold rolled steel including raw material, production processes, quality control, cost control and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of good would be an advantage.
  • Engineering/Technology: Must have a knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying the principles, techniques, procedures and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
  • Strong Interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written).
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Computer literate (Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, Word and Excel) and have a working knowledge of ERP systems (e.g. SAP); experience with Advanced Planning & Scheduling (APS) systems preferred.
