A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A SCHOOL BASED COUNSELOR - MENTAL HEALTH THERAPIST

Your role as a School Based Counselor - Mental Health Therapist promises dynamic and fulfilling days. Your primary responsibilities include conducting counseling sessions, both individually and in groups, addressing various emotional and behavioral challenges faced by students. Collaborative by nature, you'll work closely with school staff and families to develop effective intervention plans, providing crisis intervention support as needed, all while ensuring the utmost confidentiality of client records.

Furthermore, your role extends to providing essential training and education on critical mental health topics for both school personnel and students, covering areas like substance abuse prevention, Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), and stress management. Creating a nurturing and inclusive school climate is a central component, where you'll facilitate activities that establish a safe space for growth, offering individual student interventions, skill-building sessions, and psychoeducational support. Participating in vital school meetings, such as Individualized Education Program (IEP) or 504 planning, conducting student screenings, and making referrals for services and support, will also be integral to your role. REQUIREMENTS

  • Master's degree in Behavioral Sciences (social work, counseling, or psychology)
