Title: PIC/Pharmacy Director

Reports To: COO

ProCare LTC, a Long-Term Care Pharmacy in Cheshire CT is seeking to hire a supervising pharmacist who can direct/supervise and oversee the Pharmacy operations at this location to meet our growing client needs. The incumbent will be a leader, with the business and professional knowledge and acumen to lead a team of exempt and nonexempt professional associates to oversee all aspects of the Pharmacy’s operations, including leading staff, dispensing medications, monitoring inventory, and overseeing compliance and more in a high high-volume, fast-paced environments.

Position Summary

Responsibility for conformance with all laws and regulations applicable to the conduct of a pharmacy. The ProCare LTC Pharmacist Supervisor is a knowledgeable person who will direct and control the day to day/shift to shift workflow in the pharmacy. The SP oversees and directs the ProCare staff in compliance with ProCare’s Policies, Procedures and drives the outcome of the day.

Essential Functions – primary position responsibilities:

  • Manage the daily cut off goals and report times:
    • PV2
    • IV
    • ADS/Compliance
  • Supervise and manage all aspects of the daily processes, including: Monitoring the Dashboard, Delegation of daily duties, Reallocate resources (i.e. Staffing levels) as needed
  • Adhere to Clarest’s Code of Conduct, follow Clarest Compliance policies and procedures, and report any suspected violations of any federal or state laws to either their direct supervisor, Human Resources or the Compliance Officer
  • Assess pharmacy errors and ensure they have been properly documented
  • Work in concert with Back End Manager that ProCare Policies and Procedures are followed and error prevention are known to staff. In the event ProCare P&P’s are broken, violators will be appropriately reported. SP will re-enforce with the staff the hazards and pitfalls related to errors.
  • Provide excellent service by meeting all operational goals of the pharmacy, daily release times are met and provide timely and accurate service to our customers/patients.
  • Work with IV department to provide additional staff as needed.
  • Understand documentation on ProCare forms: facility correspondence required relating to clarification of orders, and other auditable situations.
  • Supervise Pharmacists to provide for the proper storage of high-cost medications, Chemo drugs and controlled substances in order to prevent loss and meet DOH BNE and DEA regulations.
  • Coordinate with COO to assess coverage/proper staffing of the pharmacy by licensed pharmacists and technician staff.
  • Educate, mentor and coach staff as needed on situations as needed beyond their knowledge. Alert staff regarding differences between Nursing Homes and non-nursing homes.
  • Oversee that all pharmacists manage the entry into the pharmacy cage/controlled substance areas pursuant to ProCare policy.
  • Mentor, Train, Advise, and Evaluate staff - help staff to meet their own individual level of performance.
  • Utilize a consultative business approach to understand/comprehend the business issues and the underlying drivers to provide solutions and recommendations
  • Update shift staff with interim information.
  • Work with purchasing and inventory specialist to reduced out of stock and delays in patient’s therapies.
  • Escalate all unresolved issues to proper department.
  • Any and other responsibilities as assigned by the manager to support these and other responsibilities in the department

Required Skills (Education/Certification/ Licenses/Years of Experience):

  • Licensed and Registered Pharmacist
  • Min 5 years experience
  • LTC Experience preferred
  • Framework and Docutrack experience preferred
  • IV Experience Preferred

Supervisory Responsibility:

  • Position will work with COO and supervise pharmacists and technicians

Budget Responsibility:

  • Position will work with COO and in relation to budget and P&L

Describe the nature and scope of independent decisions made in this position:

  • Position will work with the COO in relation to decision making but at times will need to work independently.

Work Environment:

  • This job is performed within a licensed pharmacy.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to stand for long periods of time,
  • Operation of Omnicell and Noristu machinery
  • Operation of blister card sealer
  • Ability to lift 30lbs

Position Type/Expected Hours:

  • The role is a full-time position, which is traditionally 40-45 hours a week.

Travel (if yes, percentage of travel time required)

  • Possibility of travel may be required.
