Position Overview

In a fast-paced environment, the Cabinet Mender/Sanding Associate is an integral part of the process by mending surfaces of cabinets. This employee must be competent, and detail orientated. Being a team player is essential since all tasks require collaboration with co-workers.

The goal is to ensure production procedures are carried out safely and smoothly to maximize efficiency and profits while maintaining a high-quality finish and quality of work.

Standard Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:00 am until 3:30 pm

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Consistently mend, putty, smooth, shape clean and/or polish cabinet surfaces to prepare for finishing
  • Performs repairs to surfaces (Inspect, touch up and buff surfaces to desired quality)
  • Ensures safe use of sanders, sandpapers, polishes, adhesives, solvents, finish materials, and tools
  • Maintains records of materials, orders, and rework production, etc.
  • Ensures product meets high-quality standards before advancing to next stage in finishing process
  • Identifies issues in efficiency; suggest process improvements to Lead and/or Supervisor that increase safety, reduce cost, cycle time, and labor-hours using Lean Six-Sigma and other process improvement techniques
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing tasks; assists other team members to keep production line going
  • Adheres to health and safety guidelines, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) and Company policies
  • Follows 6S process: Safety, Sort, Set, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain by participating in daily housekeeping activities indicative of a safe and well-organized work environment
  • Daily maintenance and cleaning of workspace
  • Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Punctual and regular attendance required, occasional mandatory overtime is dictated by production demands, therefore daily and/or weekly (weekend) overtime is required as needed
  • Performs other duties as needed

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to work efficiently and safely by maintaining production standards and work towards improving productivity without compromising safety and quality
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks for extended periods of time while standing constantly and working with hands/wrist/arm articulation in a fast-paced setting
  • Ability to meet cycle time requirements
  • Attention to detail and safety with ability to identify and correct imperfections
  • Ability to read a tape measure
  • Understanding of and adherence to health and safety regulations (e.g., constant use of PPE gear) and industry standards and regulations
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with ability to work and communicate well with others
  • Self-motivated with a results-driven approach

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be a least 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Apprenticeship or specialization is an asset, but not necessary
  • Experience of working with your hands repetitive

Training Requirements

  • Emergency / Contingency Training within 6 months of hire; annual refresher training thereafter
  • OSHA 10 Training within 6 months of hire; every 5 years thereafter

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before employees of organization. Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.
