Job Description

Purpose of This Job:

The purpose of this job is to mix and bake ingredients according to recipes to produce breads, rolls, cookies, cakes, pies, pastries, or other baked goods. Also responsible for ensuring a high quality of a variety of baked goods available to the customers.

Essential Functions of the Job:

1. Responsible for stocking and replenishing the shelves in the bakery area to ensure optimal product choices of high quality products for consumers.

2. Observe color of products being baked, and adjust oven temperature, humidity, and conveyor speeds accordingly and set oven temperatures and place items into hot ovens for baking.

3. Combine measured ingredients in bowls for mixing, blending, or cooking.

4. Create bake good items by: measuring and weighing flour and other ingredients to prepare batters, doughs, fillings, and icings using a scales and graduated containers.

5. Create breads and rolls by: Rolling, kneading, cutting , and shaping dough to form sweet rolls, pie crusts, tarts, cookies, and other products.

6. Check the quality of raw materials to ensure that standards and specifications are met.

7. Ability to adapt the quantity of ingredients to match the amount of items to be baked.

8. Check equipment to ensure it meets health and safety regulations and perform maintenance or cleaning, as necessary.

9. Responsible for keeping area clean and sanitary at all times.

Equipment Used in the Job:

Typical baking equipment such as measuring cups/spoons, mixers, bowls, scales, trays, oven, rolling pins, spatulas, cake pans, etc. Rolling racks, carts, and dolly.

Educational Requirements:

Minimum of high school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED).

Number of Years Experience:

Minimum of three years of experience in business. Relevant continuing education may be substituted for experience.

Reasoning Ability:

Addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages.

Language Skills:

Ability to read and comprehend instructions and directions.

Ability to understand written and verbal directions.

Ability to communicate with others (internal and external customers) to convey information effectively and professionally.

Typical Physical and Mental Demands of the Job:

Concentration, attentiveness, independent judgment and discretion, ability to manage multiple tasks, read and communicate instructions. Must be able to see, hear, and stand for extended periods of time. Must be able to match or detect differences between colors, including shades of color and brightness. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds manually.

Work Environment:

Typical kitchen environment, working with customers, using the telephone.
