Job Description

Our client is seeking a skilled Automation Engineer to join their dynamic team. You will play a pivotal role in developing, managing, and optimizing process control systems for their production facilities. Your expertise will contribute to the creation and maintenance of industry-leading standards for process control systems and associated equipment.

What You'll Be Responsible For

  • Develop and maintain PLC and Human Machine Interface (HMI) programming standards for processing plants.
  • Install and maintain hardware, adhering to structured cabling and documentation standards.
  • Collaborate with corporate engineering project managers to deploy control systems for new installations.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain existing control systems in partnership with plant management teams.
  • Coordinate with corporate IT professionals to ensure adherence to company control system standards.
  • Monitor process network switches and maintain network architecture documentation.
  • Manage software licensing and support contracts for process controls software.
  • Utilize application software such as Rockwell Factory Talk products, FT Historian, FT Vantage point, FT Asset Center, FT View SE, and Thin Manager.
  • Manage database operations including SQL server and develop reports utilizing historical process data.
  • Develop HMI graphical object and screen standards for use across all processing facilities.
  • Provide project support for process control initiatives.
  • Implement and maintain disaster recovery solutions for process control equipment.
  • Conduct PLC hardware/software maintenance as required.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for process network issues and troubleshoot accordingly.
  • Perform hardware and software inventory management while maintaining licensing standards.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders to provide updates on incidents, changes, and maintenance activities.
  • Ensure compliance with GMP, safety, and plant rules.

Qualified?

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (B.S.) from an accredited college or university; a Master's degree is desirable but not required.
  • Five or more years of experience in PLC programming within food manufacturing environments, utilizing networked PLCs.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present technical information to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Flexible team player who can adapt to changing assignments and responsibilities.

Other Stuff to Know

This position involves approximately 10-15% regional travel and may require occasional overtime, including weekends and holidays. The ability to lift up to 50 lbs. while traveling is essential.
