Job Description

Bethany School seeks a Middle School (Grades 6-8) Math and Science Teacher beginning August 2024.

Successful candidates are culturally competent, responsible, caring, and enthusiastic people who possess content area and pedagogical knowledge in math and science, specifically with courses such as Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Geometry, and Physical Science, as well as in ways these areas intersect with other content areas. Successful candidates will also demonstrate understanding of the developmental characteristics of children in the middle grades (6-8) and will have had positive experiences working with students within in these grade levels. Prior experience implementing a social emotional learning/advisory curriculum is a preferred qualification. Compensation includes salary and benefits commensurate with education and experience.

Applicant review will begin on March 11, 2024.

Responsibilities

  • Communicating with students in an understandable, effective way about daily lessons
  • Establishing clear behavioral expectations and learning objectives to maximize student learning
  • Utilizing flexible, effective teaching tools and methods to help students learn science and mathematics
  • Creating and assigning learning projects, activities, assessments and homework for students, in order to promote content mastery and to extend learning

Qualified candidates will possess or demonstrate the following:

  • Highly organized planning and time management capabilities
  • Technical proficiency in creating and tracking coursework, tests and other assignments
  • Patience and emotional management skills for dealing with students with a wide array of learning profiles
  • Bachelor's Degree in math, science, education, or other related field (required); Master's Degree (preferred)
  • A demonstrated commitment to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion
  • Initiative regarding job-related tasks, responsibilities, and projects
  • Collaborative skills and the ability to work well in team settings
  • Prioritization of student safety and security
  • Dependability, punctuality, and professionalism; complete work in a timely manner, exhibit a consistent work ethic, maintain calm under pressure, and exercise sound judgment
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; communicate effectively and professionally in writing and verbally
  • Proficiency in the use of technology; experience with Surface Pro devices, BenQ, ViewSonic or other interactive boards, Google Classroom, Google Workspaces, Rediker SIS preferred
  • Willingness to participate in ongoing professional development
