Auto Mechanic Intern (High School)

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As an Intern, you will be responsible for aiding in the repair and maintenance of various vehicles and equipment, including cars, trucks, tractors, sweepers, mixers, and front-end loaders. You will assist in tasks such as replacing shock absorbers, transmissions, clutches, brakes, and other components, as well as balancing wheels, making minor body repairs, and testing alternators and electrical parts. Additionally, you will participate in preventative maintenance programs, conduct automotive diagnostics, tune-ups, and tire changes, repair engine sub-assemblies, and adjust various mechanical and electrical systems. You will also help identify equipment issues using diagnostic tools, repair motorized hand equipment like chain saws and compressors, and report any missing parts or damaged equipment for replacement.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Schedule will vary based on agreement between high school and COPA location.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• Must be at least 16 years old at time of hire.
• Must be a junior or senior enrolled in High School

Additional Requirements:

• Must be a vo-tech (career and technical center) student in an approved cooperative vocational training program that has prepared the student for the duties and the description of work described in this posting.
• Letter of Recommendation: You must attach a Letter of Recommendation from your school's co-op coordinator, career or guidance counselor, or similar designated school professional indicating you meet your school's requirements and are being recommended for this opportunity.
• Work Permit: Minors will be required to submit their Work Permit upon acceptance of this position.
• By participating in this program, the student and school agree to use the Commonwealth's Training Plan, Statement of Responsibilities, and Student Performance Evaluation. Forms will be provided to the student upon acceptance of this position.
• You must be able to perform essential job functions.
