We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit agency that promotes justice by providing free and low-cost legal services to underserved immigrant children, families, and refugees. As an organization that combines expertise developed from the daily practice of immigration law with a deep commitment to advocacy, RAICES is unique among immigration organizations. We provide a holistic approach to immigrants. RAICES not only assists immigrants in navigating through complicated immigration laws, but we also assist immigrants with social needs through case management and providing assistance with housing. COVID-19 Response

Protecting the health and safety of employees and clients remains essential. We currently practice social distancing and encourage masks in all public areas. RAICES is using a phased-in approach to return staff to resume in-office operations.

This position will require working remotely and in-office at the assigned work location. Applicants must be adaptable and open to working in both environments.

PLEASE NOTE: All employees are assigned to an office location. The expectation is that you live within the area to commute to and from the office as business or client needs require.

The Maintenance Assistant ensures that the property's internal and external common areas, facilities, and buildings are clean and maintained to a high standard. Performs general repairs that do not require a specialized technician include repairing drywall, painting, carpentry, basic plumbing repairing doors and other building fixtures safely, and efficiently. This role is fundamental in preserving a clean environment and ensuring a safe and welcoming environment.

Responsibilities:

General janitorial duties:

• Groundskeeping -mowing, trimming, mulching, power washing, blowing, weed killing, pest control, etc;
• Picking up trash around the building, grounds, and parking lots,
• Clean and sanitize bathrooms, kitchen, and break rooms. Replenish supplies as needed.
• Sweeping or hosing off all curbs, breezeways, and front entries
• Cleaning interior and exterior windows;
• Emptying all trash cans, vacuuming, mopping, dusting and spot treating floors and surfaces as needed;
• Performing routine janitorial tasks and preventative maintenance;. and
• Maintains inventory of necessary parts, cleaning supplies, and other materials needed to perform job duties.

Performing maintenance work of all skill levels from basic repairs to more complex tasks including:

• Lighting checks and bulb replacements
• Maintaining and repairing doors and locks
• Changing air filters
• Caulking, prep work and painting
• Carpentry and plumbing maintenance and other repairs
• Assisting with the set-up and tear-down of meeting and conference rooms for events and with moving and assembling furniture as needed in San Antonio and at other RAICES sites.
• Moves furniture and equipment using hand trucks, forklifts, and other tools, and follows safety guidelines pertaining to lifting, pushing, and pulling heavy objects.
• May be called for facility related emergency calls after normal duty hours and weekends.
• Report facility related issues/concerns to the Facilities Manager,
• Travel to RAICES sites as needed to assist with facility related items.
• Assist with donations pick up/drop off, receiving and unloading in the dock area.
• Keeps accurate and up-to-date records pertaining to repairs and cleaning schedules, and reports status of maintenance to supervisor;
• Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School diploma or equivalent;
• 1 year experience in commercial or industrial cleaning;
• 1 year commercial maintenance with minor plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and other routine building maintenance and repair duties.
• Proficiency with handling basic and hazardous cleaning chemicals and supplies; and
• Ability to work a flexible schedule of nights, days, weekends, and holidays

Physical requirements:

• Required to perform strenuous walking, stooping, bending, pulling, pushing, climbing, twisting, grasping, and reaching overhead;
• Able to lift 50 pounds and walk/stand most of the day; and
• Ability to climb ladders and fit into tight spaces.
• Preferred Qualifications
• 2+ years working in maintenance and/or janitorial duties including handling machines, tools and other equipment, including HVAC, electrical and plumbing.
• 2+ years cleaning large scale commercial properties.
• HVAC or Maintenance Technician Certification.
