THE POSITION

Are you a high school student with a passion for automotive and diesel mechanics? DESCRIPTION OF WORK

Through hands-on training, the student will have the opportunity to directly collaborate with a skilled diesel mechanic. This immersive learning experience will equip the student with vital knowledge on conducting regular maintenance for a range of equipment, as well as comprehending the importance of preventative maintenance for department trucks and equipment. Additionally, they will gain expertise in truck and equipment repairs, learn about safe practices in the mechanical field, diagnose fuel system issues, repair and replace engine parts, perform fuel injection repairs, conduct equipment testing for troubleshooting, and inspect power-driven vehicles for adherence to State regulations.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Schedule will vary based on agreement between high school and COPA location.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Must be at least 16 years old at time of hire.
  • Must be a junior or senior enrolled in High School

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be a vo-tech (career and technical center) student in an approved cooperative vocational training program that has prepared the student for the duties and the description of work described in this posting.
  • Letter of Recommendation: You must attach a Letter of Recommendation from your school's co-op coordinator, career or guidance counselor, or similar designated school professional indicating you meet your school's requirements and are being recommended for this opportunity.
  • Work Permit: Minors will be required to submit their Work Permit upon acceptance of this position.
  • By participating in this program, the student and school agree to use the Commonwealth's Training Plan, Statement of Responsibilities, and Student Performance Evaluation. Forms will be provided to the student upon acceptance of this position.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
