Job Description:

The team member is responsible for various tasks dealing with the cold storage trailers. The trailers are retrieved from their designated location. The team member is required to open the trailer doors prior to attempting to dock the trailer. The team member drives the shag truck with trailer in tow to the dock. The trailers are spotted to the dock doors. The team member is required to climb out of the shag to start the unit on the trailer, remove the air hoses and check the temperature. The team member climbs back into the unit and pulls the shag away. The team member climbs out of the shag truck to chalk the tires and place the jack stands under the trailer. The team member climbs back into the shag truck. When the team member is pulling the truck away from the dock door he will get out of the truck, close the doors and seal the truck. When the trailers are dropped off or picked up at the dock door the team member records the time and temperature of the trailer.

The team members are required to wash out the trailers. This entails using a heavy pressure hose and pulling it in the trailer. The trailers are approximately 48 feet long. If there are pallets in the trailer the team member is required to move those prior to washing the trailer. When the trailer is washed a ticket needs to be written out. If there is not an attendant on duty this team member is required to fill it out.

Prior to starting work at the beginning of shift the team member does a pre-tip shag, which basically is a checklist to make sure the shag truck is in good shape.

The team members do product protection rounds. This requires the team member to check temperatures on the trailers to insure the appropriate care is taken.

The team members also make rounds with fuel tanker to fill trailers. The team member makes the round approximately 2 (in summers) to 4 (in winter) per day to fuel trailers. The estimated length of the fuel hose is 25 feet.

Physical Demands and Requirements of Job:

The successful candidate(s) must be willing and able to perform the physical requirements of the job listed below with or without a reasonable accommodation.
  • Bending: Occasional bending is noted when team member is placing jack stands under the trailers and getting out the back side of the shag truck.
  • Lifting: The team member is required to lift the hose when washing the trailer. This requires medium to heavy force depending on the distance the hose is being pulled. The team member lifts the jack stands. The jack stands weigh approximately 100 lbs. Occasionally the team member will have to lift the pallets when moving them out of the trailer in order to wash it. Wood pallets weigh approximately 20 lbs and CHEP pallets weigh approximately 100 lbs. The team member is also required to lift the chalks for the tires. They weigh approximately 20 lbs.
  • Push / Pull: The team member is required to pull himself in and out of the shag truck. They climb 4 steps and will climb in and out three times per trailer. They dock up to 100 trailers per shift. The force required is dependent on the weight of the team member. The team member also uses the push/pull motion to turn the steering wheel. The trailer doors are pushed or pulled in order to open or close them. This requires heavy force and the door is at the approximate shoulder height.
  • Reaching: The team member is required to reach outward to the steering wheel and it is oversized and requires an outward reach of up to 24 inches. Forward reaches are required when doing most tasks. Closing the trailer doors requires a reach that may be at or above shoulder height. The team member is required to reach up when pulling himself into the cab of the truck.
  • Grasping: Frequent whole hand and pinch grasp is required for all tasks.
  • Standing: Standing, sitting, climbing and walking is required throughout the work shift. The team member climbs 4 steps to get into the truck. The distance the team member walks varies based on the location of the trailers.
  • Force: Low to heavy force is required for all tasks encompassed in this job.
  • Work Duty: Use of both hands is required to perform this job. The temperature is dependent on the outside temperature.


Requirements:

Must have a valid driver's license and at least 18 years of age.

Rehire criteria is a minimum waiting period of 180 days.
