HOUSEKEEPER

GENERAL STATEMENT OF POSITION:

Under general supervision, performs a variety of custodial/housekeeping duties for residents; sweeps, mops and uses vacuum cleaners to clean floors; cleaning bathroom fixtures and floors.

Environmental Services Director

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Know and understand the vision, purpose, values and goals of Anthem Chico Management.
  • Follows work schedules;
  • Cleans bathrooms, including toilets, sinks, tubs, showers and floors, replenishes paper supplies and soap as necessary;
  • Cleans kitchen areas, including counter tops, floors; replenishes paper supplies and soap as necessary;
  • Dusts and cleans desks and other furniture, doors, baseboards and windowsills;
  • Sweeps, mops and vacuums floor surfaces and furniture; may spot clean carpets;
  • Washes windows;
  • Empties trash receptacles; may deposit recyclable material in proper receptacles;
  • May drive an electric cart or push a utility cart within the retirement community;
  • Take note of safety concerns and needed repairs and reports to supervisor;
  • May change bed linens once weekly (or as necessary) for all residential care apartments;
  • Attends in-service training workshops and meetings as required;
  • Conducts work tasks safely and in compliance with the community’s safety program;
  • Provides and protects the rights of all residents;
  • Performs other related essential work as required;
  • May, upon resident’s absence, clean and disinfect
  • Takes note of safety concerns and needed repairs and reports to supervisor;
  • May change bed linens once weekly (or as necessary) for all residential care apartments;
  • May sweep around dining room tables in dining room after breakfast and noon meal;
  • Attends in-service training workshops and meetings as required;
  • Conducts work tasks safely and in compliance with the community’s safety program’
  • Provides effective and courteous service to all residents, guests and co-workers;
  • Promotes and protects the rights of all residents;
  • Performs other related essential work as required.
  • May, upon resident’s absence, clean and disinfect room, bed, furniture, bathroom, cabinets and clothes closet;
  • Ensure that common areas are sanitized in accordance with established infectious disease control policies and procedures
  • Also responsible for resident laundry services


Requirements:

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Ability to read, speak and understand English sufficiently to follow directions and communicate with supervisor, co-workers and residents; some housekeeping experiences is desirable but not essential, since on-the-job training will be provided.


CERTIFICATION AND CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:

Requires First Aid certification.

Must receive criminal records clearance from the Department of Justice and FBI.

Must have health screening and T.B./CXR clearance.


KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS


KNOWLEDGE OF

Standard methods, materials, and equipment, employed in janitorial work.

Infectious disease control policies if assigned to work in health care center.

Cleaning procedures and the use of cleaning materials.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to operate a variety of janitorial equipment, such as window scrapers, brooms, mops, vacuum cleaners, washer, dryer and hand tools.

Ability to exert moderate physical effort in medium work such as walking or moving from one area to another, standing for periods of time: bending, reaching, stretching and grasping constantly.

Ability to exert a considerable amount of force occasionally to push housekeeping carts, and /or a moderate amount of force frequently.


JUDGEMENT AND SITUATIONAL REASONING

Ability to apply common sense understanding to perform highly repetitive tasks such as cleaning.

Ability to use independent judgement in routine situations such as deciding priorities of tasks and keeping cleaning schedules.


LANGUAGE AND INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION

Ability to comprehend and correctly use a variety of informational documents including schedules, work orders or daily task forms, and timecards.

Ability to comprehend and refer to manuals including policy and procedure forms and Material Safety Data Sheets.

May require the ability to prepare work orders.

Ability to speak and understand English sufficiently to verbally communicate effectively with residents and their families, supervisor, maintenance personnel and co-workers.


ENVIORMENTAL ADAPTABILITY

Ability to work in a health care environment.

Ability to work in apartments, offices and other indoor environments, subject to dust, dirt, and toxic cleaning agents.
