Job Summary:

Food and Beverage Restaurant Runners is responsible for delivering the food from the kitchen to a customer in a restaurant. They are responsible for ensuring that each customer receives the correct order. A few of the main duties of a food runner are handing the order to the chef, double checking orders, matching the food ticket to the customer, and refilling customer's drinks. They also have to answer any questions a customer may have. Some of the jobs titles that a food runner could grow into are restaurant manager and server.

Responsibilities and Duties Include but Not Limited to the Following:

  • Maintains the serving station well stocked, clean and sanitized during food service.
  • Serves as a liaison between the service and culinary teams to ensure that orders are accurate, well prepared and presented and served in a timely fashion, all in accord with The Betsy standards.
  • Organizes food tickets for the chefs.
  • Assists in the plating of food orders by adding simple ingredients or decorations and taking additional items to the table like condiments and serving utensils.
  • Inspects food prior to serving to ensure that it is well prepared, properly presented, and served at the right temperature.
  • Deliver food orders to the tables the proper order as per restaurant standards.
  • Confirms the patrons satisfaction with their food items, answers any questions they may have about the food and resolves any additional requests or complaints.
  • As needed, assists in the clearing, cleaning, disinfecting and resetting of tables, refilling empty water glasses or coffee cups, cleaning and disinfecting floors and surfaces in the dining room or kitchen, etc.
  • Performs additional tasks as required by management..

Job Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Some education or experience in food preparation is preferred.
  • 1 year of prior experience in a luxury hotel or high end restaurant strongly preferred.
  • Must be able to:
    • Speak, read, write, and understand English. Spanish is desirable;
    • Fulfill the Food Handler and Responsible Vendor training and certification requirements;
    • Critically assess the quality of prepared food items, with especial attention to details;
    • Perform physically demanding tasks like standing and walking for extended periods, lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs of weight, and work outdoors;
    • Use a point of sale system;
    • Follow detailed instructions;
    • Convey a professional image;
    • Identify and address details;
    • Work well with others;
    • Work independently;
    • Multi-task.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
