Job Description

Location: Rock Island, IL

Shift: Monday - Thursday 5pm-4am

Pay: $18.16/hr + $5/hr shift differential =  $23.16 

Position

At Techo-Bloc, our general laborers are a crucial piece of the production puzzle.  This entry level role is a perfect fit for those new to the industry, or anyone looking for a career steppingstone in manufacturing.   

Speaking of stones, our laborers are true concrete connoisseurs!  Your day-to-day will entail handling and inspecting concrete blocks, while serving as the ‘right hand’ to our machine operator and maintenance team.   

Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Complete examination of finished product by checking height, shape, color and consistency by applying knowledge of proper company standards as instructed and applicable for in process systems. 
  • Complete block checks, remove any defective pieces from pallet or board and replace defective pieces with quality pieces. These tasks vary by line and by product and process that the General Laborer is assigned to.  
  • Complete packaging, by adding packaging materials, top sheet, labels, and final QC on the skid of finished product before sent to the yard before final transport.  
  • All products must be packaged neatly and securely  
  • Assist Machine operators and many other variable processes IE:  pallet repair, general Maintenance helper, Yard general support, completing processes as directed. 
  • Follow established guideline for policy and procedure to ensure QA Standards are met or exceeded. 
  • Maintain a clean workstation and assist with plant clean up 
  • Wear personal protective equipment, and ensures behaviors are Safe. 
  • Follow companies proper lock out tag out and safety procedures. 
  • Behaves in accordance with Techo-Bloc Vision, Mission, and Values. 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned. 
Qualifications

Required Skills/Abilities:  

  • Be able to read and comprehend simple instructions, correspondence. 
  • Be able to write simple correspondence and/or memos. 
  • Be able to work collaboratively communicating actual shop floor issues etc. 
  • Be able to perform each essential duty to company standards.  
  • Have the knowledge, skill, and/or ability to operate machinery, not Machine Operators. 
  • Be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide 
  • Be able to reason and apply common sense. 
  • Be able to handle problems and situations effectively. 
  • Be punctual; being on time for your scheduled shifts 
  • Be able to work individually and in a team environment  
  • Be able to multitask  

 

Education and Experience: 

  • High School Diploma, or GED equivalent (highly preferred) 
  • One year of manufacturing experience (preferred)

The employee must frequently transport and move items up to 75 pounds and occasionally up to 80 pounds. Must be able to closely inspect materials and products. Employee must be able to identify color blends, variances, non-conforming color blends with up to three different colors on each product. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to remain stationary or move throughout the workstations; also includes the ability to ascend and descend steps and ladders; and position self in tight spaces. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, talk or hear.
