Desert Regional Medical Center is a 385-bed acute-care hospital classified as a stroke receiving center and level 2 trauma facility with an innovative, patient centered and evidence-based Rehabilitation Services Department.  Our compassionate team provides a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services, including acute care rehabilitation, joint replacement & spinal surgery, neurosurgery, ICU, Telemetry, step-down care, skilled nursing, as well as outpatient therapy, hand and lymphedema clinics.

GENERAL DUTIES:

The Injury Prevention/Outreach Coordinator is responsible for injury prevention activities and programs for children, adolescents, adults, and seniors across the continuum of care. This position collaborates with the professional community and develops relationships with other agencies and organizations with the goal of enhancing trauma-related care and relations of those in the community/region. This position is also responsible for assisting with the delivery of trauma-related education and training to healthcare providers (i.e., nurses, EMS providers, other healthcare providers) and intended target audiences. The Injury Prevention/Outreach Coordinator demonstrates clinical nursing competency and acts as a clinical resource, functioning as a role model for patient care and assists in staff development and community development. The position works collaboratively with the Trauma Program Manager and Trauma Medical Director to ensure the Trauma Center’s verification and designation requirements are met for outreach, education, and injury prevention. Trauma center public relations are inherent in this role.

DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  • Develops, implements and maintains injury prevention programs and participates in injury prevention activities for the Trauma Program at DRMC based on Trauma Registry statistical data and the needs of the community
  • Collaborates with local, regional and national injury prevention programs and organizations as appropriate
  • Maintains accurate records of all injury prevention activities
  • Works in conjunction with Social Services for screenings to identify problem drinkers and PTSD risk factors for all admitted trauma patients
  • Works in collaboration with other DRMC departments / divisions that offer community outreach injury prevention related activities
  • Implements the American Trauma Society “Trauma Survivor Network” in conjunction with Social Services.
  • Implements the American Trauma Society Recovery Program for Trauma Patients when available
  • Remains knowledgeable on injury prevention legislation activities
  • Provides technical assistance and support in training staff and community leaders to lead educational injury prevention programs within the hospital and the community
  • Collaborates with public relations and marketing on injury prevention materials to be distributed within the community
  • Develops evaluation tools and tracks program data for assessing progress in the community
  • Provides quarterly injury prevention report to DRMC’s Multidisciplinary Trauma Operations Committee and other committees as requested
  • Applies for grant funded opportunities related to prevention program support
  • Assists with the delivery of trauma education in coordination with on-site course directors and facility educators to staff in the ED, ICU, etc.
  • Develops and delivers quarterly trauma update courses for ED Staff
  • Coordinates and monitors ongoing trauma nursing orientation and preceptor programs for ED staff
  • Other duties as assigned by the Trauma Program Manager and/or ED Director

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited school
  • Current California Nursing license maintained at all times
  • Current in Basic Life Support (BLS) maintained at all times
  • Trauma nursing clinical knowledge pertaining to trauma patient care across the continuum
  • Knowledge of Windows, Power Point, Excel
  • Experience in public speaking
  • Demonstrated excellence in verbal and written communications
  • Knowledge of injury prevention and epidemiology and grant application an asset
  • Job Related Experience: Minimum of three years trauma nursing experience
  • Skills Knowledge: Ability to think proactively; act creatively, critical-thinking, excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of multiple teams. Ability to work in diverse cultural community groups.

PREFERRED:

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing

Pay range: $47.33 - $73.34

Individual wages are determined based upon a number of factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications and experience
