SUMMARY

The Staff Accountant will perform the day-to-day accounting functions related to weekly disbursements, producing monthly financial statements, month-end close, payroll, grantee budget review, contract management, general ledger review, cash analysis, and ensuring compliance with GAAP standards and controls.


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain daily financial procedures and confirm financial compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), not-for-profit accounting and auditing standards.
  • Execute financial reporting Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), not-for-profit accounting and auditing standards.
  • Implement new and maintain existing financial systems, including planning, collaboration with team members, testing, documenting procedures, report development, and staff training.
  • Maintain compensation recordkeeping with accuracy and ensure compliance with tax regulations, accounting standards, and MFH policies.


ESSENTIAL OUTCOMES

  • Review and produce weekly disbursements and reimbursement requests promptly, ensuring the accuracy of grantee, contractor, and administrative vendor payments, to maintain positive working relationships with each.
  • Manage multiple modules of the HRIS system including payroll processing, timekeeping, expense management, workflows, report development, security, training of staff, and troubleshooting.
  • Process bank & general ledger account reconciliations, execute the monthly closing process in a timely & accurate manner, and produce monthly financial statements including maintaining the accuracy of the general ledger.
  • Maintain the asset inventory per MFH procedures.
  • Support contract management, in collaboration with program administration and strategic initiative staff, to review and approve contractual obligations.
  • Manage MFH benefit administration, including ensuring the accuracy of reporting and EDI transmissions, collaboration with staff, and compliance with MFH policies.
  • Assist with annual audit schedules and various tax filings for multiple entities as needed.


OTHER DUTIES:

  • Participates in team activities and completes diverse assignments in support of team goals.
  • Performs general Foundation support activities and carries out special projects as required.
  • Adheres to the Foundation's core and staff values.
  • Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations and streamline work processes.




EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum levels of education and experience.

  • Education: Minimum bachelor's degree in business administration or related field with emphasis in accounting/finances.
  • Experience: Two to three years of experience in a related position plus knowledge of principles, methods, and practices of accounting required. Experience in a non-profit or foundation setting, payroll experience, and knowledge of accounting software systems preferred.
