Palo Alto University’s Gronowski Center is a psychology training clinic dedicated to providing compassionate counseling and psychotherapy services to adults, older adults, couples, adolescents, children, and families in Santa Clara County and San Mateo County. In addition to the general training clinic, the Gronowski Center also houses two specialty clinics (La Clínica Latina and Sexual and Gendered Identities Clinic).

Sexual and Gender Identities Clinic

The Sexual and Gender Identities Clinic (SGIC) offers affordable and affirming psychological services for individuals who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and/or queer (LGBTQ+), as well as those questioning their sexual orientation or gender identity.

Position Description

This position is designed for those who have already completed their required 1500 hours of postdoctoral Supervised Professional Experience (SPE) and are in the process of completing their final requirements (e.g., EPPP and CPLEE exams) for their California psychology license and are interested in working as Pre-Licensed Clinical Supervisors (PLCS). PLCS provides ethical, multi-culturally competent, compassionate, and up to date empirically validated supervision and training to Palo Alto University PhD and PsyD students who are also providing direct services to clients. The PLCS will work closely and under the supervision of the Clinic Directors to manage programmatic requirements, including data and documentation, and provide ethical, multi-culturally competent, compassionate, and up to date empirically validated supervision and training for the PhD and PsyD students.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The responsibilities described here are representative of those that must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The list of duties serves to provide examples, rather than to limit the scope of work assignments.

  • Supervise 10 beginning practicum students including 1 hour of individual supervision per student and two (2-hour) groups per week
  • Reviews supervisees’ clinical documentation and video of supervisee sessions in a timely manner and provides timely feedback on student notes, reports, risk notes and video review.
  • Meets for 1 hour of supervision by a licensed supervisor at the clinic until the employee obtains licensure
  • Provides on-site and phone supervisory coverage 8-16 hours per week for crisis/risk management
  • Assisting with general clinic and specialty clinic SGIC training (if applicable), phone intake review, case assignment, and clinical administrative improvements
  • Completes a written evaluation for each of your practicum student supervisees at the end of each quarter. Reviews the evaluation with each supervisee in supervision. Creates a remediation plan for students who are not meeting the clinical competencies (when needed), and submits to Clinic Director.
  • Provide 2 hours of Didactic training every quarter for supervisees across the clinic
  • Attends biweekly all supervisor meetings and other applicable weekly clinic leadership meetings
  • Works closely with Clinic Directors to develop and maintain a culture of high quality, evidence- based supervision, and training at the clinic.
  • Shadows Clinic Directors and licensed supervisors with select administrative and clinical tasks as needed (case presentations, record reviews, risk consultations, etc).

Required Qualifications:

Pre Licensed Clinical Supervisor

  • A doctoral degree in clinical psychology (PhD or PsyD)
    • Completion of 1500 Hours of postdoctoral Supervised Professional Experience and 1500 hours of predoctoral Supervised Professional Experience needed for licensure
    • Actively working towards California Clinical Psychologist License including preparing for or having completed the EPPP and CPLEE exams
  • Experience in clinical training and supervision
    • A strong understanding of the APA ethics code, laws and legal mandates that apply to mental health professionals.
  • The ability to teach/train supervisees in a developmentally appropriate way (i.e., sequenced clinical learning.)
  • The ability to remain calm under pressure
    • Must have excellent attendance and punctuality, collegial and diplomatic behavior at work, and work performance to the satisfaction of management, and essential functions of the position.

Pre Licensed Clinical Supervisor (Bilingual - Spanish)

  • Pre Licensed Clinical Supervisor qualifications listed above
  • Fluency and at least one year experience in providing therapy and supervision in Spanish

Pre Licensed Clinical Supervisor (Sexual Gender Identity Clinic)

  • Pre Licensed Clinical Supervisor qualifications listed above
  • Experience and expertise in the providing therapy to LGBTQ+ clients
