Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Cook to join our team at Catalina Island Health. As a Cook in our hospital kitchen, you will be responsible for preparing and cooking a variety of nutritious and delicious meals for our patients, staff and visitors. This position reports to the Dietary Manager and works closely with the dietary team to ensure high-quality food service to our hospital.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Prepares, cooks, and services meals in accordance with prescribed standards.
  • Uses proper recipes, techniques, and procedures in the preparation and cooking of meals.
  • Prepares special or modified diet foods as directed.
  • Assists in ordering food and dietary supplies necessary to satisfy anticipated needs.
  • Assist in storing food items to ensure safety, sanitary and timely utilization of foodstuffs.
  • Maintains records of food usage and cost.
  • Acts as lead cook in the absence of the Dietary Manager.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

  • Coordinates according to a variety of special diets.
  • Implements kitchen sanitation and safety measures used in food handling and in the operation, cleaning and care of utensils, equipment, and work areas.
  • Knowledge of food quality and values as well as nutritional and economical substitutions within food groups.
  • Follow oral and written instructions.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with patients, medical staff, and other fellow workers.
  • Bilingual is a plus.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • SERV Safe Certification required
  • Some food preparation experience, preferably in a hospital setting.
