The Registered Nurse participates in the functions of the organization and supports the missions of the facility; is responsible for managing nursing care of an assigned group of patients utilizing the nursing process; assists physicians during procedures; maintains a safe and efficient work environment; and works cooperatively and effectively with physicians and staff.


Qualifications

Education Experience/Qualifications: 

  • Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing. Licensed as a registered nurse in the state of Ohio.
  • Gastroenterology/ Endoscopy experience preferred

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  1. Basic computer skills (including but not limited to Outlook, Microsoft Word, Excel & email)
  1. Works cooperatively and effectively with others in a professional manner
  2. Possesses excellent communication skills
  3. Ability to work well under stress/pressure
  4. Capable of working in a well-organized, meticulous manner that is mindful of time and cost-effectiveness
  5. Adapts effectively to changes in patient assignments & schedules
  6. Provides high quality patient care that reflects sound professional judgment, clinical knowledge, and skill according to the:
    1. Ohio Nurse Practice Act
    2. Policies and Procedures of the facility
    3. Standard of Care established by the Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates (SGNA)
    4. Plan of care established for patient
    5. Age appropriateness of client served

 

  1. Completes nursing assessment upon admission and throughout patient stay and incorporates the following:
    1. Thorough admission interview with patient and/or family
    2. Utilization of keen observational physical assessment skills
    3. Identifies and prioritizes patients’ primary needs
    4. Utilizes appropriate noninvasive monitoring equipment when necessary to enhance assessment
    5. Includes the patient and family assessment of the level of understanding of the planned procedure
  2. Concurs with physician and reports significant assessment data
    1. Implements teaching strategies that maximize efficiency in:
    2. Patient preparation for the planned procedure.
    3. The reduction of patient anxiety
    4. The compliance with discharge instructions
    5. The transition to discharge
  3. Coordinates care to include the family or significant other when appropriate and acts as liaison between patient and family throughout stay.
  4. Confirms and implements physician’s orders
  5. Utilizes effective verbal and written communication skills:
    1. Verbally communicates with patients, families, staff and physicians in a manner that reflects respect and professionalism.
    2. Documents legibly and concisely assessment data, nursing actions, and evaluations (patient outcomes), and all care rendered according to the nursing plan of care on the appropriate documents on the patient record
    3. Documents appropriately the participation in the functions of the unit.

 

  1. Maintains continuity of care by:
    1. Reporting to the appropriate registered nurse in the event that the patient care assignment changes and/or the patient is transferred to another facility.
    2. Completing the appropriate documentation when the patient is transferred to another facility;
    3. Providing discharge instructions that include patient’s follow-up care appointments
    4. Completing thorough patient assessments &
    5. Working with physicians & patients to coordinate referrals
  2. Seeks to maintain a safe and efficient working environment for patients, families, physicians, and staff in accordance with the Environment of Care Safety Plan.
  3. Acts on behalf of patients before, during, and after receiving care at the facility to ensure that their rights are not violated:
    1. Strives to maintain each patient’s right to privacy.
    2. Maintains each patient’s confidentiality according to the policy and procedure of the facility.
  4. Manifests emergency preparedness by demonstrating competency in the orientation and yearly requirements of such according to the Environment of Care Safety Plan (ECSP).
  5. Assists the physician with diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures in accordance with the policy and procedures of the facility after demonstrating competency
  6. Accepts responsibility for the continued advancement of personal career through the continued participation in:
    1. Monthly staff meetings
    2. Continued education; including age appropriateness
    3.    Professional organization affiliation
  7. Participates in quality control and improvement activities
  8. Seeks to maintain a professional staff through:
    1. Providing a superior example and/or to the mentoring or precepting of new staff or those who are learning
    2. Delegating to ancillary staff members in a respectful manner.
  9. Conducts oneself in a manner that:
    1. Supports the missions of the facility.
    1. Reflects respect and concern for individuals.
    2. Supports the teamwork and morale of the staff.
    3. Reflects a willingness to change and try new approaches.
  10. Handles conflict in a positive, constructive manner; seeks the assistance of the Nursing Clinical Coordinator when assistance with conflict resolution is necessary.
  11. Demonstrates proper and safe use of all equipment; reports malfunctioning equipment to the Surgical Services Director, charge nurse &/or Safety Officer.
  12. Appearance and attendance reflect a professional dedication to the mission of the facility and complies with the appropriate policies and procedures.

Hours: Full Time, 36 hours
