POSITION OVERVIEW
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Inventory Cost Accountant to join our Finance team. The Inventory Cost Accountant will play a crucial role in managing inventory costs, ensuring accurate valuation, and optimizing inventory-related processes. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively across departments. The Inventory Cost Accountant will work with the Accounting Manager and CFO, as well as numerous other manager level individuals in the company.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain accurate records of inventory transactions and valuations, to include reconciliations and journal entries.
- Analyze inventory costs and variances to identify trends, discrepancies, and opportunities for improvement.
- Collaborate with purchasing, operations, and logistics teams to ensure accurate inventory valuation and cost allocation.
- Prepare and distribute regular reports on inventory-related expenses and performance metrics.
- Support month-end and year-end closing processes related to inventory costs.
- Conduct periodic inventory audits and reconciliations to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Provide support for internal and external audits related to inventory costing.
- Assist in inventory forecasting, budgeting, and planning processes.
- Participate in cross-functional projects and initiatives to enhance inventory management processes.
SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Strong communication skills – written, verbal, and presentation.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a high level of accuracy.
- Must be capable of prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines while working independently.
- Understanding of business and management principles.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office suite or similar products.
EDUCATION & TRAINING
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
- 2+ years of experience in inventory accounting, cost accounting, or related role preferred.
- Experience in the manufacturing sector preferred.
- Strong understanding of inventory costing principles and methodologies.
- Knowledge of inventory valuation methods (e.g., FIFO, LIFO, weighted average).
- Familiarity with ERP systems and inventory & asset management software.
