About this job

About the team

The Corewell Health (CH) West Adult Vascular Access Team (VAT) is a program of registered nurses specially trained in the ultrasound guidance insertion of vascular access devices.  The teams utilizes the Infusion Nurse’s Society (INS) and Michigan Appropriateness Guide to Intravenous Catheters (MAGIC) evidence-based practice standards to determine the most appropriate access for each patient. The adult VAT inserts bedside ultrasound guided peripheral IVs (PIV), midlines, peripherally inserted central catheters (PICC), and over the wire PICC exchanges for inpatients and outpatients at Butterworth, Blodgett and Lemmon Holten Cancer Pavilion.  The adult team also supports the CH regional locations with PICC and midline insertions. Additionally, the CHGR West Adult VAT rounds daily on central venous catheters to help reduce the incidence of infection, provides education, and serves as an expert level resource for all types of IV access.
