What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are currently seeking an experienced Flight Software Engineer to join their team. The selected candidate will contribute to development and fielding of flight software products supporting hypersonic flight systems for the Multi-Service Advanced Capability Hypersonic Test Bed (MACH-TB) program. Efforts will involve embedded real time software development activities that support the experimental flight testing of evolutionary hypersonic technology payloads. The organizational DevOps culture enables staff to contribute to all areas of software design, development, verification testing, and application.

Successful candidates will collaborate with several other NGC departments within the broader organization who work hypersonic flight applications spanning low-to-high technology readiness levels. A common code base is employed synergistically across the enterprise in conjunction with supporting simulation and analyses tools and provides many challenging opportunities to contribute.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Implement the software development lifecycle process for Sandia hypersonic flight vehicle applications

  • Develop embedded software for highly reliable real time flight systems

  • Write device drivers for real-time operating systems and integrate avionic components with NGC software hosted on a vehicle flight computer

  • Assist with software development supporting test fixtures such as Hardware-in-the-Loop (HWIL) test systems

  • Support system-level hardware testing, including on-console operations supporting Assembly, Integration, and Test team activities

  • Architect and implement software test methodologies, such as the creation and use of unit test appliances

  • Contribute to software architecture design and development

  • Coordinate and collaborate with external program partners to achieve program-level objectives and deliverables

Due to the nature of the work, this candidate must be able to work oniste.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering field

  • Experience with the use of software cross-development toolchains (such as Greenhill's Multi) in conjunction with the creation, compilation, and application of general engineering algorithms programed using C/C++ targeting embedded microprocessor-based computers running real time operating systems (such as Greenhill's INTEGRITY).

  • Experience architecting, implementing, and executing end-to-end software testing with Processor-in-the-Loop (PIL)

  • Lab experience with the use of common digital debugging tools (e.g., oscilloscopes, logic analyzers and probes, and network analyzers).

  • Active DOE - L security clearance

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Master's Degree in Computer or Electrical Engineering

  • Experience leading software development and/or multi-disciplinary teams

  • Experience with common computer networking protocols

  • Experience with common software configuration management tools

  • Experience in object-oriented programming

  • Experience developing software for use with real time operating systems

  • Familiarity with Continuous Integration / Continuous Development (CI/CD) principles

  • Experience with software unit, integration, and functional test methodologies

  • Experience in the application of software engineering standards

  • Experience in the application of fundamental Systems Engineering principles

  • The ability to collaborate and contribute as a member of a multi-disciplinary team

About Our Team:

The Navigation Guidance and Control and Sensing (NGC&S) Advanced Devlopment Department, 05444, provides technology solutions and support to development projects within the Integrated Military Systems Program at Sandia. Hardware and software technologies are developed, integrated, and tested to provide flight control solutions for missiles and hypersonic reentry platform applications. Typically, these systems support the Missile Defense Agency, Army, Navy, and other Department of Defense Agencies. We are focused on maturing next-generation technologies and our applications cover a broad spectrum of applications including GPS and inertial navigation, alternative-navigation sensors, communication and flight termination systems, advanced aerodynamically controlled vehicles, maneuvering hypersonic vehicles, and ballistic missile systems. Related applications require the extensive use of real time embedded computers and custom real-time software for the realization of fully integrated flight control system solutions. The NGC group is significantly involved in modeling and simulation activities in support of these same application areas. The department strives to provide leadership to the Laboratory and the Nation in the creative development, use, and application of both NGC and mod/sim technologies. The NGC Department staff pride themselves in team accomplishments, professional development, and the mentorship of others.

Posting Duration:

This posting will be open for application submissions for a minimum of seven (7) calendar days, including the 'posting date'. Sandia reserves the right to extend the posting date at any time.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) L security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD).

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to maintain a DOE L-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.

Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment.

EEO:

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, or veteran status and any other protected class under state or federal law.

NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.
