INSIDE SALES TRAINEE

Summary/Objective

Rotating through our warehouse, counter sales, and inside sales departments on the way to becoming an Inside Sales Representative. Engage in training classes, webinars, and on the job training to understand why customers buy and how to make yourself valuable and profitable. The roadmap is an intentional process built to provide the necessary background and experience for success when you are ready to call on customers. Our Sales Trainees move through various positions, with each step providing another building block, so they can be confident and effective in their Inside Sales career.

Essential Functions

The Inside Sales Trainee Program is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of United Electric’s products, services, and customers, while also developing the trainee's sales skills, customer service skills and techniques. The program consists of 4 distinct learning cycles, where trainees will receive training in the following areas:

Products, services and industry: Trainees will receive training on the electrical products United Electric sells, their features and benefits, and how they are used by customers. Additionally, trainees will learn about the electrical distribution industry, how distributors interface with manufacturers and vendors, as well as customer types.

Sales training: Trainees will learn how to build and develop relationships with customers, identify their needs, and offer solutions. They will also become familiar with the United Sales Process and the Pro-Program Customer Service philosophy.

Customer service: Trainees will learn our company's customer service policies and procedures, as well as how to handle customer inquiries, process orders and handle complaints.

Technology: Trainees will learn to use Eclipse, United’s ERP system, to manage, track and process customer orders. The program will additionally build competencies in Microsoft 365 programs (Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook, etc.) as well as other internal software and external learning management systems.

Interpersonal Skills: Trainees will focus on the skills needed to build and maintain relationships with customers and internal departments such as communication, teamwork, collaboration, time management, emotional intelligence, and conflict resolution.

On-the-job training: Trainees will spend time shadowing and working with experienced sales and customer service representatives to gain practical experience in the field.

Roadmap Rotations Include:

  • Warehouse ~ 3 Months
  • Counter ~ 6 Months
  • Inside Sales~ 12 months
  • Inside Sales with Assistance~ 3 Months

Location

Flexible in locations to maximize the roadmap. May need to be in locations with a counter and product groups during rotations. Supporting other locations for coverage as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-Motivated.
  • Performs other duties as obvious or assigned.

Once inside, the salesperson:

  • Sells to customers over the telephone and digitally, discussing with them their specific requirements, product information, pricing, and timeframes for product delivery.
  • Perform ECLIPSE sales system order entry.
  • Communicate to the customer technical information received from within the company or manufacturer. Including lead times or ship delays.
  • Arrange with vendors to source materials and prices needed by the customer that are not common stock to United Electric.
  • Solve customer problems including but not limited to, lost shipments, damaged items, returns, emergency needs, and billing issues.
  • Collaborate with expeditors and other internal departments to ensure a prompt, accurate delivery.
  • Continuous learning of product and industry knowledge ensuring better communication and greater sales with the customer.
  • Proactively alert customers of sales and special promotions to generate additional sales.
  • Maintain Weekly Open Order Report, Customer Calling Queue and other customer files as needed.
  • Follow up on open quotes and provide feedback to pricing or product groups.
  • Keep up to date on all ECLIPSE trackers, addressed in under a day.
  • Process Credit Card Sales according to company policies as needed.
  • Communicate with Outside Sales Representatives and the Pricing Department to change customer pricing in ECLIPSE if necessary. Keep price overrides to a minimum.
  • Meet or exceed sales budget by proactively seeking new business and participating in selling programs and promotions.
  • Work closely with all internal departments, combining individual efforts to better serve the customer.
  • Perform other duties as obvious or assigned.
