Role Overview:

Under the general direction of the President of Plant Operations, the Design Manager will oversee, coordinate, and direct the structural design and estimating team. This position is responsible for managing all aspects of the front-end design and quoting process, including estimating, pre-construction coordination, value engineering, and quality control.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the coordination and execution of structural roof and floor truss and wall panel design.
  • Coordinate between Purchasing, Plant Production, and Installed Framing departments to establish accurate turn-key bids.
  • Manage RFQs from customers, track due dates, and coordinate price updates as required.
  • Communicate directly with Purchasing Agents, Designers, and Engineers.
  • Ensure timely delivery of production data to the Plant Operations Team.
  • Evaluate workload and demand, assign design responsibilities, and right-size department resources.
  • Build relationships across the organization to provide customers with the best framing solutions.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop talent within the team.

Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of structural wood component design experience in high-volume truss and panel manufacturing environments.
  • Proven leadership skills with experience in managing teams preferred.
  • Experience coordinating quote and production order files.
  • Exceptional communication skills.
  • Strong strategic thinking and business acumen.
  • Ability to plan, project, and prioritize in a dynamic environment.
