JOB SUMMARY:

Incumbents for the Accounting Tech Intern will perform a variety of entry-level administrative tasks and special projects; assists in the coordination of administrative activities and analysis of department systems and procedures; and performs related work, as required. Essential functions and multiple accounting duties as apportioned under Accounting. Incumbent may assist with Cash Receipt transactions related to various revenue streams of the Districts. While work assignments may be primarily focused in one division area, incumbents may be assigned cross-division duties based on District needs. For that reason, incumbents are expected to possess a skill level that allows them to be assigned any duty at any time and become proficient in the required work within a short period of time. Some general types of duties expected to be performed within this position includes the following.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include but are not limited to:

  • Verifies cash receipts received by the Recreation & Parks, Customer Service, Utility Billing, and Community Watch Departments and verify the totals against the departments’ daily closing reports.
  • Audit and reconcile any differences in the daily closing report. Provides written explanation of discrepancy to accountants for review.
  • Maintain a log of any cash discrepancies and report any differences over $20 to Senior Accountant.
  • Assist with month-end reconciliations of refunds and Room Rental Security deposits.
  • Process deposits for checks or cash received on a daily basis for the various entities.
  • Prepare bank reconciliation for investment accounts.
  • Organizes and prepares documents for scanning contained in the daily closing reports. Assist with scanning documents.
  • Research, compile, tabulate, and analyze data for a variety of administrative and departmental matters.
  • Assist department personnel in assigned administrative, planning, organizational, technical, and professional tasks.
  • Prepare and present reports; draft policies and procedures; respond to requests for information.
  • Provide suggestions of recommendations with regard to department specific projects.
  • Answer incoming calls for Accounting Division phone lines.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be a current full-time student of a Florida college or university at the time of the internship, and in which the internship is: (1) required for the student’s college or university degree, and (2) related to the student’s college or university degree field of study.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to successfully perform the duties of the position. Major course of study may be in Business Administration, Public Administration, Accounting, Finance, Computer Science, or a closely related field. Education and experience will be evaluated based on the actual position.
  • Proficient personal computer skills and basic proficiency level in knowledge of Microsoft package involving Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and professional appearance.
  • Successful completion of background check and drug screening.
  • Ability to be well-organized & successfully multi-task in a fast-paced environment to meet multiple demanding deadlines.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Valid Florida Driver’s License.
  • FEMA 100, 200, 300, 700 series as required within six months of hire.

EQUIPMENT

Position requires the use of telephones, personal computers and productivity software, document imaging scanners, copier and other office equipment.
