Description

Lumos & Associates is currently seeking a Staff Engineer to support a variety of design projects. This position requires a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in Nevada and/or California, or ability to obtain reciprocity within 6 months.

This position will work out of our Reno or Fallon, Nevada office.

The Staff Engineer will work closely with Project Managers to coordinate a variety of civil design project activities, including submittals to review agencies and client communication. Advanced experience in site design, grading, roadways, stormwater systems, and water/sanitary sewer utility improvements is preferred.

As a technical position, the Staff Engineer will independently prepare conceptual designs such as grading analysis, site layout, and utility design. The Staff Engineer will provide technical mentoring and oversight to junior staff.

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualities and skills

  • Excellent technical writing and public/client presentation capabilities as well as project and resource management skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Possess understanding of principles, practices, codes, and engineering standards.
  • Possess knowledge of approval and permitting process for projects.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment and conduct multi-tasking efforts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Project Manager to coordinate work for Design Engineers on team.
  • Coordinate project activities, including submittals to review agencies and client communication.
  • Develop designs and drawings from preliminary concepts, sketches, specification sheets, engineering directives, and other data, according to client specifications.
  • Produce engineering plan sets and submit documentation packages while following standard operating procedures.
  • Prepare engineering studies.
  • Quality check all work and work of other designers to ensure complete and accurate plans are provided to senior engineering staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering.
  • Minimum of 4 years of related engineering design experience.
  • Nevada P.E. license, or ability to obtain reciprocity within 6 months.
  • Advanced ability in AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Ability to complete engineering calculations for utility sizing.
  • Ability to prepare grading, utility, and roadway plans.
  • Ability to follow and apply established company CAD and GIS standards.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project Access).
  • Valid drivers license and driving record with 3 or less demerit points.
