Job Qualifications.

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of experience in a social or recreational program, within the last five years, one of which was
    full time in a residential health care setting.
  • A qualified therapeutic recreational specialist or an activities professional certified or a qualified
    occupational therapist or a qualified certified occupational therapist assistant
  • Preference given to experience in managing staff, administration, or the practice of leading residential
    activities in the long term care setting.
  • Work effectively with minimal supervision, strong communication skills, and ability to lead a group of
    people in completing tasks.
  • Meet the physical job demands of the position

Hours of Work:

Full-time position. Works weekends as necessary

PUBLIC RELATIONS:

  • Assist with facility marketing plans as delegated by supervisor.
  • Coordinate activities that will invite the community to visit (i.e. Community Service Programs,
  • Entertainment, Community Groups, Newsletters, Volunteer Program)
  • Assists in the planning of special events (i.e. Holiday Dinners, Memorial services, Honoring of Veterans)

RESIDENTS:

  • Assure that the recreational related emotional and social needs of the resident are met/maintained on an
    individual basis
  • Assist residents with display of cards, photos, calendars, or other momentous in their rooms
    (Maintenance to assist hanging anything on wall for safety/security)
  • Involve the resident/family in planning objectives and goals for the resident
  • Involve the resident/family in planning recreational activities programs when possible
  • Participate in Resident Council meetings as warranted; assure minutes are recorded and follow up to any
    concerns/suggestions is provided to the residents.
  • Offer Clergy visits to residents
  • Provide each and every resident/family with the information necessary to explain their rights and
    responsibilities while staying at the facility.
  • Offer and provide if requested one-to-one visits to residents and families offering supportive listening and
    socialization.

OPERATIONS


  • Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, & direct the recreational activities programs of this facility
  • Assist in the development, administering, and coordinating of department policies and procedures
  • Keep abreast of current federal and state regulations, as well as professional standards, and make any
    recommendations on changes in policies and procedures to the Administrator.
  • Review dept. policies & procedures, at least annually & participate in making recommended changes
  • Interview resident/families as necessary in a private setting
  • Perform administrative duties, such as completing necessary forms, reports, etc., and submitting such to
    the Administrator as required.
  • Assume the authority, responsibility, and accountability of directing the Activities department
  • Coordinate recreational activities with other departments as necessary
  • Serve on, participate in, and attend various committees of the facility as required, and as appointed by
    the administrator
  • Work with fellow departments and implement recommended changes as required.
  • Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis, as well as a calm
    environment throughout the facility
  • Be aware of and assist in notifying appropriate departments of new admissions, resident
    discharges/transfers, room changes, and resident deaths.
  • Coordinate Group Social Activities, Indoor/Outdoor activities, Activities away from the facility, spiritual
    programs and when possible at a place of worship, creative activities such as crafts, arts, music, exercise
    activities, one-to-one activities, and promotion of facility and community interaction (i.e. Resident/Family
    in the local parade, Community coffee at the facility hosted by our Dietary and Activities department).
  • Provide residents/family the opportunity to participate in planning & implementation of activities
    program(s).
  • Work with the facility's Ombudsman as necessary and implement recommended changes as required.
  • Provide current and accurate posting of the scheduled activities throughout the building
  • Attends in-services/educational conference that promote professional development, willing to travel
    when necessary to these events.

BUDGET

  • Assist Administrator with development of yearly budget for the Activities department
  • Monitor expenses of department and implement any necessary changes as directed by the administrator
  • Offers input for capital equipment budget
  • Has a basic understanding of the information included in the budget, reviews it on a monthly basis to
    insure expenditures are in line with budgeted amounts and responds appropriately.

BUILDING

  • Request repairs for office equipment as necessary.
  • Reports safety and environment hazards.
  • Responds appropriately to fire drills, codes, etc.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly environment
  • Assist with putting up, taking down and storing of proper seasonal/holiday decorations.
  • Keep Activities storage area neat, organized and in a manner that promotes safety.

EMPLOYEES

  • Provide current licensure/certifications and or proper documentation to supervisor for personnel file
  • Maintain open communication with all departments to promote the best quality of care for
    residents/family.
  • Recruit, train and supervise volunteers when appropriate
  • Report to work on time, properly groomed according to departmental/facility dress code
  • Follow established ergonomics policies and procedures governing lifting techniques, repetitive tasks, and
    the use of safety equipment and supplies to prevent work-related injuries and illnesses.
  • Wears name tag at all times
