Job Description

Job Description

Ghost is a private, b2b marketplace that helps scale distribution for the best brands in the world. Ghost works with leading brands in streetwear, apparel, footwear, beauty, and home to find alternative distribution channels for surplus inventory. By providing transparency, data, and a network of vetted buyers, the Ghost platform serves as the backbone for sellers to diversify and optimize their inventory lifecycle. Backed by top VC funds (Cathay, USV, Equal, Eniac), Ghost is one of the fastest growing startups in LA.

We're on the hunt for a visionary Senior Test Automation Engineer to craft and spearhead our comprehensive automated testing strategy. In this pivotal role, you will architect, implement, and optimize testing frameworks across the testing pyramid and into performance/load testing domains to bolster our platform's reliability and scalability. Your mission will involve close collaboration with our engineering teams to integrate quality assurance seamlessly into our development lifecycle. You'll lead by example, mentoring engineers in test automation best practices while driving innovation and continuous improvement in our testing processes. Joining Ghost at this exciting stage offers an unparalleled opportunity to significantly influence our quality assurance approach and contribute to the platform that's revolutionizing how high-end retail surplus is traded in a cutting-edge b2b marketplace.

This role is remote-friendly. Our headquarters is in Los Angeles, California, and we have an office in New York City.

About The Role:

  • Strategic Testing Leadership: Architect and implement a holistic automated testing strategy to support the testing pyramid framework at Ghost, encompassing UI/e2e, API/integration, and eventually performance/load tests. Ensure the strategy is scalable, supports CI/CD, and integrates with the current tech stack (NodeJS/React).
  • Build and Maintain Testing Frameworks: Create robust, resilient testing platforms for end-to-end, integration, and performance testing. Ensure these platforms are maintainable, scalable, and seamlessly integrated into our CI/CD pipeline, enhancing the reliability of our deployments and the confidence of our developers to ship code to production continuously.
  • Foster Quality Culture: Champion a culture of quality across engineering teams by promoting best practices in test automation. Lead workshops, code reviews, and sessions on automated testing strategies, framework optimization, and effective test case development to ensure high-quality codebase and system reliability.
  • Collaboration and Mentorship: Work closely with development teams to integrate testing practices into the development lifecycle. Mentor engineers in test automation, fostering a culture of quality and continuous improvement. Encourage and facilitate the adoption of testing frameworks, contributing to an ecosystem where quality is everyone's responsibility.
  • Innovation and Continuous Improvement: Keep abreast of the latest trends and technologies in test automation and software development. Evaluate and introduce new tools and practices to enhance testing efficiency, coverage, and system reliability. Drive the continuous evolution of our testing practices to support business growth and technological advancement.

About You:

  • Expertise in Test Automation: Deep understanding and hands-on experience with a broad range of testing frameworks and technologies, including but not limited to Cypress for e2e testing, API testing tools, and performance testing with K6 that will integrate seamlessly with our existing CI pipeline. Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript is essential.
  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to design and implement comprehensive test automation strategies that align with organizational goals and support rapid, reliable software delivery.
  • Influence, Collaboration, and Leadership: Strong leadership skills to influence testing practices across teams and mentor engineers in best practices. Excellent communication skills to articulate technical strategies and collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Problem-Solving and Innovation: Proactive in identifying potential issues and innovative in solving complex problems. A growth mindset with a focus on continuous learning and improvement.

What you will love:

  • We believe if we aren't first, we're last! We need to be the best at what we do. We must set the highest standards in our winner-take-all market. We fight for every dollar and never settle. We are all owners, hustlers, and streetfighters - working together to achieve a unified goal.
  • Anything we can do tomorrow, we can do today. We drive a culture of high velocity, leaving no room for analysis paralysis. We promote efficiency and progress in every step we take. If it will help the business, just do it. It's better to get a speeding ticket than a parking ticket.
  • We are a customer-obsessed company and believe in making it magical: Our members are at the center of our universe. We continuously strive to create experiences that are 10x better at every touchpoint. We anticipate their needs and go above and beyond, delivering experiences that surpass expectations.
  • We believe in working as a team to provide solutions, not problems. We are committed to reaching our goals, no matter the challenges. We tackle projects as a team, with a "jump in with both feet" mentality. Every roadblock is an opportunity for innovation. No task is too big or too small, and we take on challenges beyond our core responsibilities, spreading optimism and confidence.
  • We embrace radical candor. We embrace difficult questions and uncomfortable answers. Our decisions are grounded in data and facts, leading to meaningful and sustainable outcomes. We value giving and receiving open, honest feedback. We critique ideas, not individuals. We embrace radical transparency and rigorous thinking, avoiding decisions driven by ego or self-interest.

Compensation for this position includes a base salary, equity, and a variety of benefits. The U.S. base salary range for this role is $150,000 - $200,000. Actual base salaries will be based on candidate-specific factors including experience, skillset, location, and local minimum pay requirements as applicable. We are actively hiring for this role in California, New York, or US remote, and offer competitive local pay and benefits.
