SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Executive Director of Student Services, the Licensed Social Worker will provide individual support and case management services to students attending CALV’s vocational training classes. The LSW will be responsible for overseeing a workforce development training and supportive services program. The program is designed for at-risk individuals to receive hands-on training, pre-employment services & supportive services; ultimately leading to self-sustaining careers in the hospitality industry.

The right candidate will have experience in the education or workforce development space and will have a passion for counseling and providing individualized interventions and support.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct initial intake assessments which can include mental health, substance abuse, environmental, and financial circumstances to determine eligibility for training classes, tuition assistance, and supportive services programs.
  • Clarify all rules & regulations to students, advising them of their responsibilities and obligations under program participation.
  • Work with students throughout the duration of their training program to address any behavioral concerns and potential barriers to successful employment; providing crisis intervention & counseling services as needed.
  • Provide referrals to outside support services/agencies to help students deal with economic, emotional, or physical challenges.
  • Create Performance Improvement Plans for students with multiple behavioral concerns, conducting disciplinary meetings for students as needed.
  • Monitor student attendance to ensure success in training programs.
  • Ensures comprehensive assessments, case notes and all program documents are in compliance and completed within required time frames; including generating required monthly reports.
  • Provide supervision & coaching to Case Manager staff.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with other social services & workforce development agencies.
  • Collaborate with the Instructional team and represent the department at monthly student progress meetings.
  • Performs other related tasks as required.

SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Must have a positive and friendly attitude and be able to build rapport with students quickly.
  • Professional demeanor, attentive to details, and highly organized.
  • Must be able to work effectively with others in a team setting and be comfortable speaking to/facilitating large groups.
  • Knowledgeable with both community and public/private social service resources
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) – preferred.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Must be a Licensed Social Worker in the state of NV.
  • Experience working in a school setting preferred.
  • Computer skills required including but not limited to knowledge of Microsoft Word & Excel.

PHYSICAL DEMAND:

  1. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to see, be mobile, and have the ability for 2-way communication with the public and staff.
  2. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods; reach with hands and arms; talk and listen on a regular basis.
  3. Ability to work for extended periods in an office under artificial fluorescent lighting with varying noise levels. Must be able to perform under pressure and concentrate for prolonged periods.
  4. The work environment is an indoor, climate-controlled office environment comprised of cubicles, walled offices and group conference rooms. The noise level in the office environment is usually low. There are no protective devices necessary to be worn or utilized in the office work environment.
  5. Minimal travel is required.
