The anticipated salary range for this role is between $126,000.00and $196,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.

JOB SUMMARY:

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Staff Engineer - Data to join our Compliance IT Department at SMBC MANUBANK. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in ensuring the bank's adherence to regulatory guidelines and industry best practices through effective data analysis, management, and reporting.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Data Analysis and Interpretation:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify compliance-related data requirements and translate them into actionable insights.
  • Conduct comprehensive analysis of complex data sets to identify trends, anomalies, and potential compliance risks.
  • Heavy use of Excel spreadsheets, Power BI or other visualization software.

Data Management and Integration:

  • Design and implement efficient data pipelines, integrating data from various sources.
  • Ensure data quality, accuracy, and consistency by implementing data cleansing, validation, and transformation processes.
  • Collaborate with IT teams to optimize data storage, access, and retrieval for compliance reporting and monitoring.

SQL Expertise:

  • Write complex SQL queries to extract, transform, and load data into relevant tables for analysis.
  • Utilize SQL queries to perform in-depth analysis, identify trends, discrepancies, potential issues, or problems related to compliance data.
  • Develop and maintain SQL scripts for routine data processing and reporting tasks.

Familiarity with Compliance Software Highly desirable:

  • Experience and familiarity with compliance software such as Verafin, and Actimize.
  • Leverage your knowledge of these tools to enhance data analysis, monitoring, and eporting processes.
  • Collaborate with IT and compliance teams to integrate and leverage these tools effectively.

Desirable Technologies:

  • Understanding of cloud platforms (Azure, GCP) for data storage, processing, and analysis is a plus.
  • Scripting languages (Powershell, Power Automate, Python)


Regulatory Reporting and Documentation:

  • Generate ad hoc reports from Core system and Fraud detection software as requested.
  • Maintain thorough documentation of data sources, methodologies, and processes to support audit and regulatory inquiries.

Process Improvement and Automation:

  • Identify opportunities to streamline compliance processes through automation and innovative use of technology.
  • Work closely with stakeholders to understand their needs and pain points, and propose data-driven solutions to enhance compliance efficiency.

Collaborative Team Player:

  • Engage in effective communication with team members, management, and stakeholders to share insights, findings, and progress on compliance initiatives.
POSITION SPECIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experienceas a Business Analyst, Data Engineer, or similar role within the financial industry, with a strong focus on compliance and regulatory matters.
  • Proficiency in writing complex SQL queries to extract, transform, and load data, as well as perform detailed analysis for trends, discrepancies, and potential compliance issues.
  • Hands-on experience with data visualization tools (e.g. Power BI) to create meaningful reports and dashboards as needed.
  • Familiarity with compliance software (Verafin, Actimize) is desirable.
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms (Azure, GCP) for data analysis and management is a plus.
  • Familiarity with regulatory frameworks and requirements in the financial sector (e.g. BSA/AML) is highly desirable.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and an analytical mindset, coupled with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively interact with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ease in leading presentations to stakeholders in a remote environment through Teams or Zoom.
