Hiring Range: $16.21 - $18.23

The Town of Erie's Recreation team is looking for dedicated and compassionate people to join us as our newest Camp Counselor Aides!

Under general supervision, you will perform a variety of duties, assisting the Licensed Program Director in performing specialized instruction and program supervision for the Town's State-Licensed programs. This may include the coordination of staff and participants in daily activities.

All staff are expected to adhere to the Town's mission, vision and values of PRIDE.

Camp Duties

  • Performs a variety of routine organizational and instructional duties in support of the Town's State-Licensed programs.
  • Supervises and monitors participants to ensure a welcoming and inclusive environment to a diverse participant population.
  • Conducts a headcount according to established schedule. Checks in and checks out participants.
  • Plans and implements enrichment activities.
  • Leads indoor and outdoor group activities.
  • Sets a good example for participants and others including cleanliness, punctuality, sharing clean-up and sportsmanship
  • Provides exceptional guest service to all participants. Responds to information requests, comments and complaints from participants.

Administrative Duties

  • Maintains area, facilities, supplies and equipment to ensure a safe and sanitary environment.
  • Reports any issues or concerns with inventory, facility conditions, policies and incidents to supervisory staff as needed.
  • Maintains frequent communications with other staff, participants, parents and volunteers.
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings and trainings.
  • Ensures the safety of guests and program participants by enforcing all rules and policies with staff and practicing safe food handling procedures

Other/Miscellaneous

  • Administers first aid, CPR and may assist with other medical attention as needed.
  • Assists with conducting activities, special events and special projects as required and assigned.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must be a minimum of 16 years of age and must successfully pass a Criminal Background Check.

CERTIFICATES/LICENSES/REGISTRATIONS

  • Ability to obtain CPR, First Aid and AED certification within three months of employment

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Knowledge of: To perform this job successfully, an individual must demonstrate exceptional leadership and communication skills and must possess expert knowledge of the principles, practices, trends and methods of recreational aquatics operations and programming in a community setting. Knowledge of guidelines and regulations related to Department, Town, County, State, and Federal policies and procedures also required.

Skills in: Initiative and decision-making; verbal and written communication; supervision, leadership, and interpersonal relationships; basic financial methods of recreational programming; outstanding customer service to a diverse population; administrative functions; time management, meeting deadlines, responding to internal and external requests in a timely manner; the use of standard office equipment, computers, and various software programs; positive and professional working relationships with all Town staff and the community; conflict resolution; handling controversial issues; comprehending instruction, correspondence, and policies and procedures; problem solving; remaining composed in emergency situations and working effectively under stressful circumstances; performing CPR, First Aid, and AED to level of certification.

Environmental Factors: Work is performed inside and outside a standard recreational facility environment. Work may involve competing demands, and performing multiple tasks.

Physical Factors: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit or stand for extended periods of time and occasionally lift storage boxes and sports equipment of 20lbs or more.
