About this job

The Controls Technician is responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, calibration, and repair of process control systems of automated production equipment. As a member of the Maintenance Team, under the guidance of the Director of Production Operations, the Controls Technician ensures the accuracy and reliability of systems controls, implements Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) upgrades and supports production line performance, modifications, safety and quality.

_Essential Duties _

  • Configures and programs PLCs

  • Maintains, troubleshoots, and navigates PLCso Allen Bradley Panel View, AB Servo & AB VDF drives

  • Installs, calibrates, maintains, repairs and troubleshoots Process Control Systems SCADA & DCS

  • Provides technical assistance to internal customers

  • Plans and performs Preventive Maintenance

  • Develops and ensures SOPs for automated equipment

  • Follows maintenance SOPs

  • Coordinates with maintenance team and other departments to anticipate issues and implement solutions

  • Provides technical assistance as needed by internal customers

  • Performs all other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • Safety and quality-minded* Exceptional communication skills (verbal, written)

  • Certification or Associate's Degree in related area of study (Electrical or Mechanical Engineering)

  • Five years experience with Process Control Systems or related field* Fundamental working knowledge of PLC logic and controls

  • Networking, Ethernet experience* Electrical Background

  • Experience with desktop business applications (Excel, Word, CMMS)

  • Proficiency in use of laptop computer, multi-meters and other calibration equipment

  • Valid Wisconsin Driver's License.

Job Dimensions

  • As the Controls Technician, you will:

Work effectively in a team environment and an individual self-directed environment, including coordination with end users, internal and external customers, consultants and vendors.

Support a multi-shift operation on days, nights, weekends and holidays, and on-call and rotating shifts. Travel to local facilities operating a company vehicle on a daily basis.

Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, understand and interpret complex electrical, mechanical systems, automation systems, technical procedures, and governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.

Mathematical Skills
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of the Microsoft suite of software, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint. Proficiency in Outlook for the use of email.

Other QualificationsValid Driver's License, proof of vehicle insurance, and reliable transportation.Must be able to travel 15% of the time.
