THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a mechanic, you will perform skilled maintenance and repairs on a wide range of vehicles, equipment, and tools. Most of the repairs will be on diesel equipment and will include oil changes, filter services, part replacement and repair, mechanical diagnostics, tune-ups, tire changes, electrical; brake; and steering repairs, and safety and emissions inspections. Compliance is crucial for PennDOT, and you will make sure our fleet is in proper working condition before it is used for various transportation related projects. There is an administrative aspect to this position, such as keeping meticulous records of repairs, inspections, and any emergency road services.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment.
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch. Work hours are subject to change based on seasonal requirements and operational needs.
  • This position requires travel, overtime and shift work as necessary.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Four years of experience in the automotive mechanic trade; or completion of an approved apprenticeship; or
  • Any combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledges, skills, and abilities.

Special Requirements:
  • This position requires possession of a current and valid Pennsylvania Class C driver's license.
  • This position requires possession of a Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Class 1 Certified Inspection Mechanic certification.

Additional Requirements:
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
