PURPOSE OF POSITION: Responsible for the direction and control of personnel under his/her command to ensure the proper performance of duties and adherence to established rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Coordinates procedures and communications with other law enforcement-related entities, EMS, Fire Departments, etc., and performs related work as required and/or assigned.

WORK PERFORMED/JOB FUNCTIONS: Supervises, trains, or arranges training, and evaluates and schedules communication staff. Prepare work schedules and arrange for coverage for absenteeism. Coordinate communications equipment maintenance. Coordinate and supervise the day-to-day communications center responsibilities including, but not limited to, ICRs, juvenile contact reports, gun permits, alarms, and the entry, modification, and retrieval of data. Maintain current data including, but not limited to, current phone number lists, fire number lists, 9000/90000/MOC codes, and phone numbers of emergency and support personnel. Coordinate procedures required by MINCIS, NCIC, CJIS, BCA, and FBI. Delegate and assign duties and tasks to subordinates within the communications center. Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Required to be knowledgeable about the geographical structure of Cass County and all resources available for effective communications during day-to-day operations and during emergencies. Work frequently involves contact with people who are difficult to communicate with. The Independent nature of the job requires a high degree of communication skills and self-motivation. Should have considerable knowledge of FCC rules and regulations relating to law enforcement and other emergency services radio communications. Requires a thorough knowledge of computer systems and data entry procedures. Requires the ability to pay attention to detail and be accurate when modifying or implementing criminal statistics. Requires a thorough knowledge of Office procedures, practices, and regulations regarding the maintenance and implementation of criminal statistics in the computer system both on a local, state, and federal level. Requires the ability to effectively and efficiently communicate, both orally and in writing. Requires a working knowledge of a large-scale computer system and network at local, state, and federal levels. Requires the ability to access computer information in an effective and efficient manner and organize same. Should be able to establish an effective working relationship with subordinates and superiors.

MINIMUM TRAINING, EXPERIENCE, OR CERTIFICATIONS: Must be a United States Citizen. Must have no Felony convictions. Requires High School Diploma or equivalent. Requires State certification for data entry operation into the Zuercher system and CJIS State and NCIC Federal computer networking systems. Ability to work with minimal supervision. Requires current First Aid and CPR certification. This position shall be filled in accordance with civil service rules and regulations. Must possess a valid Driver's License.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work requires shifts, including prolonged sitting, and work is generally confined to the communications area. Light physical effort is occasionally required for file storage duties to lift up to 25 pounds, with reasonable accommodations available. Duties are performed in an office environment.

HOURLY RATE: $30.22 - $38.69
