Assistant Principal (workdays – 210) 

 

Reports to: Principal, Grow Academy 

 

Organizational Overview

Grow Public Schools (GPS), founded by the Grimm Family Education Foundation opened its doors in August 2011. With schools located in Arvin and Shafter, California, Grow Public Schools is an independent public charter school management organization (CMO) where health and wellness is at the center of student success. Grow Academy implements a rigorous blended learning model and all scholars have the opportunity to actively engage in our unique school features such as our Learning Lab, arts & music program, physical education, and Edible Schoolyard (ESY) program. 


Summary Description: The Assistant Principal works closely with the Principal in the implementation of the school’s academic and culture systems. His/her primary responsibilities are the academic outcomes and establishing a college-ready culture for Grow Academy in alignment with the Grow Public Schools mission and academic model. 


Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Works collaboratively with the principal in pursuit of schoolwide goals and initiatives. 
  • Provides high-quality instructional coaching to teachers that includes weekly observation and feedback cycles, support with data-driven planning, and analysis of student work 
  • In collaboration with the Culture Leader Team, supports student disciplinary issues and implements positive cultural programs to support school values of health & wellness
  • Facilitates weekly Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) with grade level teams to analyze student performance and adjust instruction in the upcoming weeks
  • Supports the daily operations, program management and implementation of annual strategic plans for the academic program 
  • Assists in the development and implementation of the master schedule
  • Assists with the development and implementation of Family and Community Engagement plan 
  • Serves as an active member of the Instructional Leadership Team (ILT) to plan for network-wide implementation of professional learning initiatives 
  • Collaborates with home office leadership and the ILT to design and execute instructional professional development. 
  • Oversees and provides coaching and development for Small Group Instructors (SGIs) and aides 
  • Liaise with CMO and the Afterschool Program Coordinator to support the planning and execution of Grow Academy Intersession and Afterschool Program
  • Serves as principal designee in the absence of the principal 
  • Other duties as assigned 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Strong instructional and classroom management skills 
  • Ability to assess performance and develop methods and techniques for improvement 
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively on projects 

Required Qualifications and Experience 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Liberal Arts, or related field. Masters Degree preferred. 
  • Clear California Teaching Credential and California Administrative Credential
  • Minimum of 4 years teaching experience in grades TK-8, preferred
  • Previous experience in a charter school or district leadership position (coach, counselor, director, administrator, etc.) 
  • Experience working with economically underserved students.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak Spanish proficiently is strongly preferred.
