SPECIFIC JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs manual and semi-skilled work functions associated with the installation, maintenance, and/or repair of water and sewer lines and various components of the distribution and collection system (e.g. meters, taps, fittings, manholes, collars and valve markers, backflow preventers, hydrants, etc.); assist with cleaning catch basins & drainage ditches, clearing debris from grates, and unclogging pipes; assists with laying pipe; patches asphalt and concrete; grades land and repairs landscaping

Operates a variety of commercial grade power equipment, machinery and hand tools used in department projects and activities, which may include pick-up truck, mower, weed eater, edger, jack hammer, chain saw, saw, axe, shovel, and various tools. May occasionally operate larger dump trucks, tractors, and other equipment.

Performs general maintenance tasks necessary to keep machinery, equipment, and tools in operable condition, which may include inspecting equipment, checking fluid levels, replacing fluids, greasing equipment, washing/cleaning equipment, and cleaning shop and work areas; monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; reports faulty equipment.

Works as part of a crew to assist in the maintenance, repair, and construction of Water and Sewer infrastructure. Assists in maintaining, inspecting, and reducing infiltration and inflow into the sanitary sewer collection system. Duties include but are not limited to; installation and repair of water and sewer mainlines and services, locating of water and sewer lines for the miss utility system, leak detection, Manhole repairs fire hydrant maintenance and repair, Meter reading. Adheres to established safety procedures: monitors work environment and use of safety equipment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals

REQUIRMENTS

  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • High School Diploma, GED, or specialized vocational training.
  • A valid TX driver’s license with a good driving record
  • Ability to operate dump trucks, and drive backhoes to and from job sites.
  • Ability to perform manual labor in weather and terrain extremes.
  • Ability to lift heavy equipment, tools and other objects weighing up to approximately 50 lbs
  • Training will be provided

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The Maintenance Serviceman works in a variety of situations including construction sites, treatment plant, confined spaces, driving a vehicle in and around public streets and privately owned lots, as well as in various types of weather and weather conditions. The position is normally a 40-hour week, although some overtime could be required. Will be scheduled for “on call” duty after normal working hours, as needed. JOB TYPE: Full-Time

SALARY: Starting $17.62

$18.02 after 90 days
