Cabinet Peaks Medical Center is looking for a Paramedic to join our Emergency Department!

The Paramedic is a versatile two part position working in ED as non-licensed assistive personnel under the direction of and assistance to the RN, and in close relations with Libby and Troy Volunteer ambulance services.


ED: The Paramedic performs assigned tasks and activities according to skill level and patient needs as assessed by the RN. The Paramedic supports nursing personnel in providing nursing care to patients and assists with providing a safe, quiet, clean, organized environment for nursing care delivery.  Job duties must be performed in a manner consistent with CPMC.


EMS: While on duty in ED, the Paramedic is on call for Libby and Troy ambulance services as pre-medical center ALS and as transferring caretaker of ambulance transport patients to higher level care facilities. The ED Charge RN, in conjunction with the ED Physician, has final decision in releasing the Paramedic for pre-medical center response or transportation of patients to higher level care facilities.  Off duty Paramedic may be contacted for transport or assistance in the ED as ED Charge RN deems necessary. Ambulance duties are conducted under state license and endorsement under the EMS medical director and working under state protocols as outlined through the state medical examiner’s office, and under by-laws, management, and policies of the cooperating ambulance services.


Major Job Duties & Responsibilities

Proper orthopedic splinting and crutch training.

Ability to obtain and document peripheral IV/IO access and fluid administration.

Obtain 12 lead EKGs using proper lead placement.

Timely acquisition and documentation of vital signs.

Cardiac monitor application and proper lead placement.

Patient care and documentation of care in electronic record.

Registration and admitting of patients.

Room cleaning, stocking and set up for next patient and overall cleanliness of the unit while on duty

Management of Information: Attends and is active in at least 80% of staff meetings annually, maintains security and confidentiality of data and information.

Tasks on department quality daily check sheet completed and signed off.

Procedure set up and assistance as requested.

Wound dressing application.

Answer phones, clerical duties, call physicians and Medical Centers for providers.

Coordinate EMS and helicopter air ambulance requests for transports.

Pre-Medical Center ALS as dispatched and Patient ground ambulance ALS transport (primary care).


Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities

Skilled and Knowledgeable in emergent care and equipment.

Possess excellent prioritization, organization, and time management skills.

Exhibit very good computer skills required for patient registration.Demonstrate flexibility in scheduling and availability to accommodate the needs and demands of the department.

Operates with sound verbal and written communication skills.

Advocates for patients and families and exhibits professional and therapeutic customer service skills.

Use of emergency equipment including but not limited to; defibrillators, IV pumps, vital sign machines.

Splint application.

Take direction from registered nurses.Work independent in-patient care of EMS and Medical Center transport patients.


Education Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.

Montana and National Registration as an Emergency Medical Tech-Paramedic (EMT-P) with preferred Critical Care endorsement (i.e.,CCP-C, CCEMT-P) or upon agreement with CPMC, acquired within six (6) months of start date.

Current certifications in BCLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP and TNCC required.


Experience

1 to 2 years clinical experience as an EMT-P in pre-hospital or Emergency Department setting preferred. Prefer a minimum of one year experience actively transporting Critical Care patients.
