Cabinet Peaks Medical Center is looking for a Registered Nurse to join our Acute Care Team!

This Registered Nurse provides direct and indirect patient care in the Medical-Surgical setting. Communicates with Providers, Medical Surgical /co-workers, and other staff as appropriate about changes in patient’s clinical condition including results of diagnostic studies and symptomatology. This person is able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Additionally, this Nurse can perform general nursing duties in all departments. This includes nursing assessments, planning, interventions, evaluations, and execution of the medical regimen including administering medications and treatments prescribed by any person authorized to prescribe by state law and hospital policy.


Major Job Duties & Responsibilities

Demonstrates the communication by clearly conveying information and ideas through appropriate mechanisms in a way that engages people and helps them understand and retain the message.

Demonstrates ability to make patients and their needs a primary focus of one’s actions; developing and sustaining productive patient relationships.

Demonstrates safety by familiarizing him or herself with policies and procedures, practicing personal and patient and equipment safety consistently and reporting any and all safety hazards/unusual patient or administrative occurrences that may have effect on patient and/or staff’s wellbeing. 

Demonstrates ability to set high standards of performance for self and others; assumes responsibility and accountability for successfully completing assignments or tasks; self imposing standards of excellence rather than having standards imposed.

Performs head-to-toe assessment on all patients and reassessments as per policy. This includes: pediatric, geriatric and the general population considering needs specific to the standard of care for patient’s age.

Adequately assesses and reassesses pain. Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques. Educates the patient and family regarding pain management.

Actively seeks opportunities to offer task assistance to all CPMC Team Members as appropriate.

Provides direct patient care, evaluates outcomes, consults with other specialists as required and adjusts nursing care processes and care plan to ensure optimal patient care and documents per policy.

Administers medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition. Follows the six  (6) medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors.

Formulates a teaching plan based upon identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning; family is included in teaching as appropriate.

Assists providers with procedures and performs services requiring technical and manual skills.

Participates in meetings, committees, and continuing education to improve individual, departmental, and organization performance.

Performs waived testing (point of care) per Clinical Laboratory’s and unit’s policies and procedures. Interprets results of waived tests: taking appropriate action on waived tests results.

Coordinates and supervises patient care as necessary.

Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.


Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities

Basic computer knowledge.

Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

Knowledge of nursing care principles, practices, and procedures.

Knowledge of safety principles and infection prevention in the patient care environment.

Ability to assess patient’s needs and coordinate appropriate nursing care.

Knowledge of rehabilitative nursing including pre- and post-operative care.

Must be able to pass N-95 respiratory testing or have the ability wear a Powered Air Purifying Respirator (PAPR) annually.

Specialty unit employees for areas such as ICU and OB, must meet clinical competency standards specific to the assigned areas. 

Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.


Education Requirements

High School Diploma Required

A.S.N or B.S.N from an accredited school of nursing. 

B.S.N. Preferred but not required.

Current state Registered Nurse Licensure, within state of practice.

Current BLS certification.  

Current ACLS certification (must obtain within 6 months of hire). 

NRP and PALS required for working in specific specialty areas.


Experience

No experience is required; however, 1 or more years of full-time experience in related area is preferred.


Schedule

Full-Time Position with variable shifts based on needs of the department.  Evenings, weekends and holidays are often required to provide coverage. Hours and shifts may change or rotate to provide coverage and perform the necessary duties. Days worked and shift times are subject to change at the request of the manager.
