Job Title: Construction Laborer

Department: Complete Track Works

Division: Northern Plains Rail Services

Location: David City, NE

Reports to: Production Foreman

Job Status: Full Time working on a project in David City, NE for the next 8-12 months. When this project is completed, employees may have the opportunity to maintain employment, but it will require travel to other project sites.

Schedule: M-F 07:00-16:00, OT, Occasional weekend work, additional hours as necessary. Travel included: Regional 25 %, Production 80+ %

Pay: $24.00/ Hour

 

Summary:

The Construction Laborer for Northern Plains Railroad, Inc. (NPR), d.b.a Northern Plains Rail Services (NPRS) and other affiliated companies, performs a variety of tasks involving physical labor at project sites, utilizing hand and power tools and other equipment. The position will be performing work in David City, IA - occasional travel may occur.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities at NPR but are not limited to:

Install and Repair railroad track at specified project sites or on railroad property.

Competencies:

To perform this job successfully at NPR, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:

Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in railroad or related field.

Experience with tools and machines, including their design, uses, repair and maintenance.

Ability to read and understand specific instructions and work specifications.

Ability to understand and follow safety rules, policies, procedures and regulations.

Ability to work as a team, to jointly carry out assigned tasks.

Travel required 80 + %.

Physical Demands:

NPR may make reasonable accommodations to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the physical demands listed below:

Continuous: Work outside on or near railroad tracks, (most of day spent on feet standing). Grasping hand & track tools, materials & equipment. Vision & hearing while on duty & balancing.

Frequent: Must be able to perform manual labor consisting of lifting & carrying 10-50 lbs, bending, and working at ground level in all types of weather.Crouching, reaching above & below shoulder level, stooping and walking. Throwing a switch. Perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs, moving the whole body, such as standing, climbing, bending, lifting, balancing, and handling of materials, equipment and tools. Exposed to loud noises. Exposed to live track/trains/ high voltage/ moving equipment.

Occasional: Must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs,, climbing on & off equipment or machines, driving, kneeling, squatting, ascend & descend ladders, sitting, ascend & descend stairs, twisting. Pushing & pulling.

Rare: crawling & jogging, sitting.

  • May require travel to various facilities and provide additional services.

Environmental:

Continuous: Must be able to work outdoors in all extreme weather conditions. Work outdoors at project sites in harsh weather conditions including very hot and very cold weather. Must wear appropriate safety equipment such as safety glasses, hard hats, safety footwear, and hearing protection as required. Exposure to dust. Uneven surfaces.   • Occasional: Vibration, works at heights.

Education and Training:

  • GED or higher.

Must have and maintain an insurable driving status which includes but is not limited to NPR driver provisions.
