EDUCATION
Associates Degree in Nursing required. Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
EXPERIENCE
Minimum of 3 years’ nursing experience in hospital setting required. Previous supervisory experience preferred.
LICENSURE / CERTIFICATIONS
Active Washington State RN licensure required. BLS, ACLS, and PALS required.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Manages with the Unit Director the clinical activity of the nursing unit on a 24-hour basis.
- Performs and reports to the unit director the quality of care on the unit. Assures that all the following are completed:
- Core competencies
- Evaluation process
- Policies/procedures
- Hospital committees
- Joint Commission, Department of Health and other regulatory guidelines
- Unit standards applicable to each unit
- Safety standards
- Performs duties as assigned
- Functions as patient advocate, intervening when treatment or procedure deviates from established standards of care and follows chain of command within appropriate time frame.
- Coordinates in orientation of new personnel.
- Performs and reports to unit director the provision of adequate staffing, equipment, supplies and education for staff.
- Assists in the planning and provision of adequate staff, equipment, supplies and education to ensure quality patient care.
- Participates with Unit Director in planning of unit goals and objectives, and operating budget each year. Assists in operation of unit within budgetary guidelines.
- Performs and reports within budgetary guidelines to unit Director. He/she is accountable for expenditures.
- Makes decisions in staffing regarding monthly scheduling.
- Delegates effectively on the unit using support personnel in an efficient manner.
- Participates in the planning and preparation of patient and family education program on unit.
- Works in conjunction with Unit Director and Education Department to determine and meet educational needs of the department.
