EDUCATION

Associates Degree in Nursing required. Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.

EXPERIENCE

Minimum of 3 years’ nursing experience in hospital setting required. Previous supervisory experience preferred.

LICENSURE / CERTIFICATIONS

Active Washington State RN licensure required. BLS, ACLS, and PALS required.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Manages with the Unit Director the clinical activity of the nursing unit on a 24-hour basis.
    • Performs and reports to the unit director the quality of care on the unit. Assures that all the following are completed:
      • Core competencies
      • Evaluation process
      • Policies/procedures
      • Hospital committees
      • Joint Commission, Department of Health and other regulatory guidelines
      • Unit standards applicable to each unit
      • Safety standards
      • Performs duties as assigned
      • Functions as patient advocate, intervening when treatment or procedure deviates from established standards of care and follows chain of command within appropriate time frame.
      • Coordinates in orientation of new personnel.
      • Performs and reports to unit director the provision of adequate staffing, equipment, supplies and education for staff.
    • Assists in the planning and provision of adequate staff, equipment, supplies and education to ensure quality patient care.
      • Participates with Unit Director in planning of unit goals and objectives, and operating budget each year. Assists in operation of unit within budgetary guidelines.
      • Performs and reports within budgetary guidelines to unit Director. He/she is accountable for expenditures.
      • Makes decisions in staffing regarding monthly scheduling.
      • Delegates effectively on the unit using support personnel in an efficient manner.
      • Participates in the planning and preparation of patient and family education program on unit.
      • Works in conjunction with Unit Director and Education Department to determine and meet educational needs of the department.
