Title: Aquatic Supervisor

Department: Washington City Community Center

Division: Aquatics

GENERAL PURPOSE

Aquatic Supervisor assists the Aquatic Coordinator in providing quality aquatic programming, training lifeguards and instructors, and overseeing rockwall and concessions in line with the vision (Improving Life through Recreation) and Values (Create Opportunity, Discover Passion, Seek Balance, and Embrace Unity) of the Washington City Community Center.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Aquatic Supervisor works under the specific supervision of the Aquatics Coordinator and general direction of the Operations Manager.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

Aquatic Supervisor provides immediate supervision to head lifeguards, lesson instructors, rockwall staff, and concessions staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Aquatic Supervisors must be available to work a rotating schedule that may include day, night, and weekend shifts. Multiple Aquatic Supervisors will share a portion of the following responsibilities as assigned by the Aquatic Coordinator.

  1. Train all staff employed as Swimming Lesson Instructors and keep records of their certifications.
  2. Monitor the performance of Swimming Lesson Instructors and to report on any staff who fail to attend organized training sessions. Be responsible for covering all classes with suitably qualified experienced instructors on a regular basis and also for holiday and sickness coverage. Give advice as requested to customers on all matters related to swimming lesson instruction.
  3. Ensure all program fees are paid in accordance with Washington City Community Center program payment policy through facility capital management software.
  4. Performs as the head of all lifeguards, knowledge of all staff duties, provides training to less experienced lifeguards, enforces rules, disciplines or ejects patrons for rule infractions, and ensures compliance to policies and procedures by lifeguards in a proactive and positive manner.
  5. Develops staff work schedules for rockwall, lifeguards, and concessions. Assures shifts are properly staffed, ensures certifications are kept up to date and monitors performance to make recommendations to the Aquatics Coordinator affecting employment status such as advancement, discipline and discharge.
  6. Performs first aid according to American Red Cross standards to assist individuals suffering injuries and performs water rescues.
  7. Directs and performs preventative maintenance and custodial duties, cleans pool decks, monitors water temperature and chemical balance, takes water samples, and may make minor equipment adjustments to assure proper temperature and chemical standards.
  8. Oversees set-up, take-down, and proper use of equipment for swim meets, water polo games, and other special events.
  9. Teaches lifeguard and First Aid/CPR/AED Courses.
  10. Manages inventory control and completes orders for concessions.
  11. Prepare and provide monthly updates and reports to the Aquatics Coordinator.
  12. Provide superior customer service to all facility guests and proactive, positive training to all staff members.
  13. Other duties as assigned by the Aquatic Coordinator.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Education and Experience:
  2. Graduation from high school, plus two (2) years of specialized training in recreation management, physical education or related field;

AND

  1. Two (2) years of recreation programming, physical education teaching, certified swimming instruction, coaching or related experience; of which, two (2) years experience in the management of an aquatics facility preferred;

OR

  1. An equivalent combination of education and experience.
  2. Special Qualifications:

Applicant must possess a valid driver's license and must possess a Water Safety Instructor (WSI) or equivalent certification. Applicant must be certified in CPR and First Aid (Lifeguard training preferred) and LGI certified within six months of hire date.

  1. Work Environment:

Incumbent of the position performs in a typical pool setting with appropriate climate controls and typical settings associated with indoor/outdoor recreation environment. OSHA related hazards may be encountered under controlled conditions. Tasks require variety of physical activities, generally involving muscular strain, such as walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching, and lifting. Talking, hearing and seeing are essential to performance of daily tasks. Common eye, hand, finger dexterity needed in performance of duties. Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, discriminating thinking and creative problem solving.


As per Washington City policy and/or procedures, a background check, and drug screening evaluation will be required for potential new hire candidates prior to an offer of employment.
