DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a member of the Berks County Maintenance Organization, your responsibilities will include performing maintenance and repairs on buildings, machinery, and equipment. You will also assist in manual labor activities and conduct daily building inspections to ensure safety and proper upkeep of county maintenance office properties. In addition, you will be responsible for repairing electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and fire safety systems, and making recommendations for any additional work that may be needed. Furthermore, you will monitor and adjust HVAC systems, controls, and computers to ensure optimal performance. Your role will also involve selecting the appropriate tools and equipment for assigned projects and providing assistance to diesel mechanics during major repairs. You will be responsible for constructing building forms for masonry work and painting the interiors and exteriors of buildings. Additionally, you will support highway maintenance and construction crews by assisting them in completing necessary tasks.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of experience as a Maintenance Repairman 1; or
  • Four years of experience in building and plant maintenance work, which has involved at least two of the building, electrical, or mechanical trades; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training that affords the applicant with the Required Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities.

Special Requirement:

  • This position requires possession of a valid Class C Driver's license.

Additional Requirements:
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
