The individual will partner with key business leaders to pioneer and apply innovative predictive analytics and computational research approaches to inform data-driven decisions for patient benefit.This role will partner closely with fellow category leaders facing the Research, Global Drug Development, and Business Insights & Analytics organizations. Some key responsibilities including the defining of buying channels, purchasing policies, and a comprehensive supplier relationship management program. Additionally, this individual is responsible for overseeing the execution of category strategies by multiple cross-functional teams, including sourcing and contracting.Major Responsibilities and Accountabilities:Inspire, develop and enable an Informatics & Predictive Sciences category strategy with global, regional and local considerations that define how purchasing will be done to optimize value to the Company.Define buying channels and purchasing policies to drive compliance and adherence to category strategy, with a user-centric approach. Develop a 3-5 year strategic plan to realize category strategy targetsDefine a sourcing process that is compliant with Company requirements that balances Quality and Urgency achieving the greatest value for the Company and its patients Lead and / or support major category initiatives within a multi-year plan including end to end process optimization, make / buy analysis and recommendations within a spend category globally, regionally and locally across R&ED, Global Drug Development, Business Insights & Analytics, and Commercial.Develop and manage relationships with key business leadersChampion Procurement training programs to better support business needs. Drive co-ownership of initiatives and accountability based on agreed upon strategiesDevelop and implement metrics and reporting mechanisms Support business growth by providing market insights and subject matter expertise to key Business Partners (e.g. Informatics & Predictive Sciences, Business Insights & Analytics, etc.)Ensure excellence in delivery of procurement initiatives that maximize corporate, business, and functional priorities and objectivesRemain current with market trends through relationships with Sourcing Managers, suppliers and market experts, and ensure compliance to the BMS process of gaining access / familiarity with emerging supplier capabilitiesDefine and execute Supplier Relationship Management priorities by fostering collaborative relationships with highly strategic global / regional suppliersIdentify, build, and maintain mutually beneficial relationships, partnerships, and alliances with select suppliers through Supplier Relationship Development programsDevelop a list of preferred suppliers within a category of spend and manage complianceRecommend or implement changes to the organization’s purchasing, supply management and material usage policies as neededMeasure supplier performance using rating systems or predetermined standardsQualificationsMinimum Requirements Minimum education of a B.S./B.A. Life sciences and/or computational sciences is preferredMinimum of seven (7) to ten (10) years of experience in procurement or category management experienceExperience in participating on cross-functional and/or global teamsInternal stakeholder management, data/information management, category management, process redesign and continuous improvement expertise, project management and performance measurement skillsProcurement process knowledge, contract management, financial analysis, market analysis, supplier analysis, supplier diversity, supplier management, technology utilization, and strategic planningThe starting compensation for this job in San Diego, CA is a range from $159,000 - $200,000, plus incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility). The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills and where the job is performed.
