DutiesAs a Health Physicist, you will:Serve as a Radiological Control Program Advisor at EM Headquarters (HQ).Participate in on-site audits/assessments of the adequacy of actions by the field and contractors to implement health physics programs to assure that policy implementation is effective and timely.Monitor and direct Argonne National Laboratory's (ANL) activities related to development and application of the RESRAD (RESidual RADioactivity) family of computer codes.Serve as a recognized expert in the areas of health physics and radiation safety, and as a reviewer on the operational activities of DOE programs and site offices and their contractors in these areas.Lead and oversee the development of goals, objectives, and requirements for the occupational and environmental health physics programs related to the organization's field offices.Provide consultation to program offices and the organization's field sites on health physics and radiation protection issues associated with dose and risk assessment, operations, and sealed sources.Requirements Conditions of EmploymentMust be a U.S. Citizen or National.This employer participates in the e-Verify program.Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.Subject to satisfactory security and suitability requirements.May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.Obtain and maintain a Q level security clearance. QualificationsBASIC REQUIREMENT: IOR Requirement: Degree: natural science or engineering that included at least 30 semester hours in health physics, engineering, radiological science, chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics, and/or calculus.orCombination of education and experience -- courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or other education; or certification as a health physicist by the American Board of Health Physics, plus appropriate experience and other education that provided an understanding of sciences applicable to health physics comparable to that described in paragraph A.SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-14) in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as:Evaluating, coordinating, and developing regulations, standards, and policies aimed at radiation protection of the public and environment under the Administrative Procedures Act and other radiation protection Directives, Technical Standards, and Technical Position Papers.Experience performing radiological impact assessments of the public and environment and applying modeling codes such as the RESRAD family of codes and the Multi-Agency Radiation Survey and Site Investigation Manual methodology (MARSSIM). Collaborating with field and contractor Health Physics professional staff and with counterpart officials of other Federal agencies or private sector.Serving as liaison for matters concerning radiation protection in the private or public sector. "Experience" refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
