Responsibilities Include:The Materials and Fuels Complex (MFC) at the Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is seeking applicants for a position specializing in Structural Engineering to support advanced microreactor projects. This position will be organized within the Reactor Project Engineering Department within the Engineering Division at MFC.  The successful candidate will be the assigned Structural-System Engineer for various structural systems and activities at MFC including advanced micro reactors reactors. The Structural-System Engineer will apply knowledge, practices, and techniques to lead in the evaluation of new nuclear reactor designs and developing designs for new or modified facilities.  The Structural System Engineer will apply engineering knowledge, processes, and techniques through design and implementation phases of projects. Technical understanding of the design requirements, system performance criteria, physical configuration, operation, testing, and maintenance of assigned systems and components is key.  Perform Structural Engineering role for new designs and modifications.  The Structural Engineer will oversee development of design documents (calculations, specs, system design descriptions, etc) by reactor designers and/or subcontractors, assign quality requirements, develop and support execution of start-up activities, and maintain redlines and as-build drawings.  As part of this role the Structural Engineer will perform and check calculations, evaluations, and analyses as necessary.·                Perform structural and radiation shielding calculations, design simple to complex structural modifications to existing structures and design new structures related to engineering design projects. ·                Perform civil and structural engineering design, participating in in-house structural engineering design projects, and interfacing with external engineering firms to support project specific design tasks, cost/schedule/scope base lining of engineering projects, technical and functional requirements development, conceptual design reports, procurement and construction specifications and contract documents development, and field construction support. ·                Execute code compliance studies per the ASME BPVC, ASME B31, ACI, ASCE 7, ASCE 43, ASCE 4, AISC, IBC, the INL Engineering Standards, and DOE Orders and Standards, and apply these code requirements to engineering outputs.·                Evaluate the work of design agents for, including for new nuclear reactors, against the applicable national consensus codes and standards.QualificationsMinimum Requirements:·                PR0300 - Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Civil or Structural Engineering and a minimum of 5 years relevant engineering experience, or a Master’s Degree and a minimum of 3 years relevant engineering experience·                PR0400 - Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Civil or Structural Engineering and a minimum of 8 years relevant engineering experience, or a Master’s Degree and a minimum of 6 years relevant engineering experience·                Ability to design, analyze and evaluate structures/systems·                Must have a proven background in evaluations and calculations using ASME BPVC, ASME B31.1/3, including the associated vessel support structures and pipe supports·                Must have a proven background in evaluations and calculations using ACI, ASCE 7, ASCE 43, ASCE 4, AISC N690 codes·                Ability to assess the designs of advanced microreactors relative to DOE standards for seismic and other natural phenomena hazards·                Performing finite element software calculations·                Ability to assess situations impacting structural integrity and public health and safety·                Ability to applying advanced or complex engineering concepts and techniques to solve Structural/Civil related problems·                Ability to communicate with operations, engineering, nuclear safety, maintenance and programmatic personnel both verbally and through written products·                Ability to identify and execute engineering work tasks such as design/analysis efforts, maintenance activities and operating written instructions·                Ability to plan, organize, and lead engineering work·                Must be a US Citizen and have the ability and willingness to obtain and maintain a DOE "Q" clearancePreferred Qualifications: ·                Experience with Abaqus and STAAD·                Experience performing engineering functions within a nuclear facility/environment ·                Professional Engineering License in Civil/Structural Engineering Job Information:·       Salary Grade PR0300-220 - ($107,520 - $177,336)/ PR0400 - 230 ($121,212 - $206,232·       Multi-Level: This is a multi-level posting and the selected candidate will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on depth and breadth of proven experience and skillsTDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employmentChosen applicants are required to show a demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working environmentINL Overview:INL is a science-based, applied engineering national laboratory dedicated to supporting the U.S. Department of Energy’s mission in nuclear energy research, science, and national defense.
