Job Summary and Qualifications

The Operating Room RN manages the nursing care of surgical patients in the Operating Room in accordance with AORN Preoperative Standards and Recommended Practices and follows the established Policies set by Terre Haute Regional Hospital Healthcare Organization

What will you do in this role:

    • Provides age and culturally appropriate patient care 
    • Instructs and educates patients and their families 
    • Orients and mentors new staff members and students
    • Assesses and assists with patient’s discharge planning needs with appropriate healthcare team 
    • Monitors, records, communicates and updates appropriately the patient condition to healthcare team
    • Documents care in Meditech
    • Review and confirm consent, H&P, results of lab tests are on chart prior to patient procedure being performed 
    • Have proper equipment and/or implants for OR set up · Performs “Time Out” and Side/Site verification ·
    • Performs SCIP measures · Performs initial and on-going patient assessment according to accepted standards of nursing practice ·
    • Assesses, plans, and evaluates patient care needs 
    • Carries out and/or clarifies ambiguous Physician orders and documents same 
    • Administers prescribed medications, and treatments and documents same 
    • Assists anesthesia provider with induction, intubation, extubation, line insertion 
    • Assists with flow of surgery schedule 
    • Assumes charge nurse duties as needed
    • Schedule patient for surgery 
    • Performs surgical counts per policy

    What qualifications will you need:

    • Current State of Indiana Registered Nurse License or Compact State License if applicable.
    • Graduate of an accredited Associates Degree of Registered Nursing 
    • Current BLS certification with receipt of ACLS within 9 months of employment 
    • Demonstrated proficiency in basic nursing skills including phlebotomy 
    • Acquired knowledge and skills to give age appropriate care in the surgical patient care settings 
    • Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast paced environment
